"This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."

I don’t want to go around looking for a CD drive. I paid good money for a CD and should be able to DL Mac files. I have a valid code and have only installed on 1 computer. This is a TT issue and they need to fix it.

All downloads/installs using the same purchase must all be done using the account associated with the purchase.  Support may be able to help ...

@macuser_22  & anyone else......  He has the same problem I and several others have.  We first installed the CD on a computer.  Then we want to download the program to another computer without a CD drive but it is saying the License Code has already been associated with an account. and look in my downloads. Well what account did the CD register it to? It's not in my downloads. When it installed it didn't ask me for my account name and password. How do I sync it up to my account?  I haven't called in yet.  Hope someone does and gets the solution.

I already did that. That’s the problem everyone on here is having. When I enter my code and select Max it gives me the message about the code associated with an account. I just need to DL DMG files. You’re not giving me solutions. I/we need a link to DL files. Your solution is NOT a solution.

Right now there is no solution for this situation.  I and several others have the same exact problem.  Someone needs to call in and ask.  I might call but it won't be for awhile maybe in Feb.

I called in yesterday and waited over an hour for Customer Support to call me back. The rep talked to his supervisor and his solution was to DL files to Mac using the link provided (same link we’ve all tried. He told me I couldn’t DL on my PC because I already loaded the software and that wouldn’t be a problem when I DL to a different computer...turns out that didn’t work. I’ve tried another PC and no luck...get same message.

I posed the question to the MODS - they might be able to get an answer sooner.

(I have never installed from a CD, but I have a vague memory that last year before entering the license code, it asked you to enter your account information or create a new account if you did not have one.   For 2020 it seems that it no longer requires an account to install form a CD.    Looks like only half of it got changed.)

"This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."

I have not called Intuit because I figured it would be fruitless (as others already discovered).  I bit the bullet and went out and bought a little USB DVD drive that I used to install the program onto my laptop.  This went without a hitch and did not throw any error messages.

For 'fun', I tried to download the program again this morning following the instructions on the disk sleeve.  This time when I logged into my account, I entered my email address and when it went to the next page it came up with three accounts under that email and asked me which one I wanted to log into!  This never happened before and I never created the other two accounts.  I am guessing that when we install the program via the CD, a "ghost" account is created in Intuit's records to record the number of installs that are being done with this particular disk and/or License Code to prevent more than five installations.  I certainly can understand why they would do this, but why on earth wouldn't Intuit give me the opportunity to associate the install with my existing account rather than create a new one?  I think this is an error in their programming that they haven't fixed yet.  I also think the fact that the other two accounts appeared on this login attempt that never showed up before indicates that they might be working on the issue.  Maybe.

"This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."

Perhaps, but that might not help other users without a CD drive.   If they did "fix" it then the account association would only happen when  the CD is installed for the first time, and since other user have already installed once form the CD the cannot install again "for the first time" on that computer and the other computer does not have a CD drive.   This could be a "catch-22" situation, in as much as if it has been fixed, then it is too late to take advantage of the fix.

(That is similar to a bug that causes crashes so the app will not run, but an update to fix the bug is useless since the app must be running to apply the fix - and that has happened in 2014.)

"This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."

I spent another hour plus on the phone with TT Customer Support yesterday. I had to share my screen with them in order to convince them I was doing everything they suggested. I also had to show evidence that I actually purchased the disk from Amazon. Eventually, they had no alternative but to send me a link to a download using a NEW code which they reluctantly gave me at no charge. I was then able to DL the DMG files. They currently have no way of sending someone the link to DL files without giving them a new code. If you call them, be prepared to spend at least an hour on the phone with CS. And...be prepared to be made to feel like you are a crook looking for them to provide you with free software.

"This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."

Similar to others in this thread. For the fifth straight year I purchased a CD from COSTCO planning to install it on a Windows PC and a MAC as in previous years. TurboTax installed fine on a Windows PC using the CD. Followed the directions on the CD to install TurboTax on a MAC (no CD drive) and received the "This license code has already been associated with an account." message. I then tried following the download instructions on the Windows PC where TurboTax was successfully installed using the CD. I received the same message!???

I contacted TurboTax. They voided the CD license and provided two separate downloads/licenses for Windows and Macintosh. I had to remove the TurboTax installation from the CD and install TurboTax from the download.

The TurboTax representative said they would write up a report on this issue. The representative did share with me the following (found when they researched the subject):

*******

We have been made aware of scuff marks appearing on TurboTax Desktop CDs that are sold at Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJs Warehouse.

The CDs with scuff marks typically load and install with no issues, but occasionally, a retail customer may call in and indicate they're receiving an error when trying to install TurboTax Desktop from a retail CD.

*******

It appears as though someone is trying to draw a correlation between scuffed CDs and failed downloads. I fail to see a cause and effect as the CD installation works fine and the download has absolutely no knowledge of CD scuff marks. The user manually types in the license code from the CD package. Logic???

I didn't check this year's license agreement. But previous years allowed installation on more than one computer using the same license. This is one reason I like TurboTax as it works well for my family/household. Losing this feature would make me reconsider purchasing TurboTax in the future.

I hope this helps someone.

Good Luck!

"This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."

@User0 This is a known bug that has been refered to the developers.

In the past, even installing the purchased CD on a desktop computer required you to first create a TurboTax account (or log into an existing account).   That associated the first in stall with you.    Now, the CD will install with no TurboTax account so TurboTax keeps track of the install in a "dummy" account that you cannot access.

They overlooked that if you then want to install on a computer without a CD drive you must log onto your account but  there is no way to associate the new install with the dummy account that you do not know about.

This is a case of trying to improve one thing that breaks something else.

I suspect that there is no way to fix this for the 2020 product because while TurboTax can change the code in the download product for future installs, it is not possible to change the code on a CD that is already on a store shelf.
