What happened with your 2019 return? What was wrong? Did you efile or mail your return? When? They didn't start opening the mail until June that was stacking up. Back in March the IRS closed their processing centers and stopped processing mailed tax returns. See this IRS page for the latest information https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue If you efiled....Was your return Accepted? When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. Then only the IRS can tell you. IRS Where's my refund https://www.irs.gov/refunds/ Make sure you are using the refund amount from your actual federal tax return and not the combined amount Turbo Tax showed you at the end. That was for federal and state combined. When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. what does it say?

And if your efile gets accepted your ex will have to print and mail their return. They don't have to wait for you to amend.

The IRS will stop mailing Stimulus checks on 1/15 so if you don't get it by the time the efiling opens on Feb 12 you can apply for the missing money on your 2020 return. The Stimulus Checks are really based on your 2020 return we are filing in 2021. So any amount you already got will be reconciled on your 2020 return line 30. If you didn't get a Stimulus Check (and qualify) or you qualify for more it will be added to your 2020 return. But the good news is if they paid you too much they won't take it back. When you go through the federal review tab it will ask how much you got if any. Or to enter your stimulus payment in TurboTax, type "stimulus" (without the quotes) in the Search box, then click the link that says "Jump to stimulus." After you have entered your tax information and are ready for the Federal Review , it will be the first question. If you are trying to trigger it, you can go to Other Situations , answer any questions and click Done. The next automatic selection is Federal Review and it will ask about payments received.

No. It would only go on the child's return if they have other income to report. If that is the only thing they got the do not have to file and nobody reports it.

Yes. Did you add your baby under My Info? Be sure when it asks how long your child lived with you that you pick THE WHOLE YEAR (which is acceptable for newborns) and not just the number of months. Go back and double check that. The IRS will stop mailing Stimulus checks on 1/15 so if you don't get it by the time the efiling opens on Feb 12 you can apply for the missing money on your 2020 return.
