https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/2021-tax-filing-season-begins-feb-12-irs-outlines-steps-to-speed-refunds-during-pandemic The IRS is not accepting returns at this time, so it can sometimes take longer than the initial 24-48 hours before you know if they have accepted or rejected your return. This generally happens around this time when e-filing has not opened yet. Keep in mind, they will not officially start accepting e-filed returns until February 12th. A few may be accepted early to start testing their systems, but they would not start processing until on or after 2/12/21.

Not sure how you missed the W-2 input section but now it is too late ... Can I change my return if I already submitted it and you’re holding it until the IRS opens? No. Once you submit your return, it’s considered to be in pending status. We’ll hold all returns submitted before the IRS opens and submit them when the IRS is open. Once the IRS either accepts or rejects your return: If your return is accepted: If you want to change your return, you’ll need to amend it. If your return is rejected: We'll send you an email to notify you, along with instructions on what to do. You can then open your return and make any changes you would like. Just be sure to fix the reason the return was rejected as well. Uninstalled Win 10 OS updates can cause issues ... make sure you have updated and installed all of them and make sure to reboot the computer at least twice.

YES ... since you did not already pay the taxes on the unemployment you only had withholdings just like on a W-2 for wages. If you fail to enter all your income on the tax return then you will get audited. All your income from all sources are reported on the return along with all the withholdings to balance off the tax liability. If you paid in too much you get a refund and if you didn't pay in enough you will owe.

First ... did you enter in all your income yet ??? The adoption credit is a non refundable credit which is used after all other non refundable credits like the CTC are taken into consideration ... so look at your return to see if there was any federal tax left over after the other credits were applied. Also look at the adoption credit form and the worksheets to see the calculations. How do I preview my TurboTax Online return before filing? You can view your entire return or just your 1040 form before you e-file: Open or continue your return. Select Tax Tools in the left menu (if you don't see this, select the menu icon in the upper-left corner). With the Tax Tools menu open, you can then: Preview your entire return: Select Print Center and then Print, Save, or Preview This Year's Return (you may be asked to register or pay first). View only your 1040 form: Select Tools. Next, select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu.

Agreed ... did the IRS change anything else on the return ? Credits are affected by income changes and other credits.

Ok ... here is how it works ... the IRS will not start processing any returns until 2/12 and returns with EIC on them starts on or about 2/15 so the estimated refund date is early March. The information on the TT site is ONLY an estimate based on the IRS estimate of a 21 day pay out however this is not set in stone. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/earned-income-tax-credit/when-to-expect-your-refund-if-you-claimed-the-earned-income-tax-credit-or-additional-child-tax-credit

If you don't have a bank account then you can buy a prepaid debit card for $5 at almost any store, register the card and use it to get the tax refund. You don't need to pay $45+ in the TT system for the same thing.

If for any reason you do not receive all or part of your stimulus payments in advance, you can have it added to your refund. The IRS stopped mailing payments on 1/15 so wait until 1/25 to file to make sure you don’t receive the money before filing. If you file too early and you get the money after you file then your return will be delayed while the IRS corrects your error. Since the IRS will not start processing returns until 2/12 you have time to wait … don’t be in a rush. Please wait until you are certain there is no second payment, then you can follow these steps, if necessary. After you have entered your tax information and are ready for the Federal Review, stimulus will be the first question. If you are trying to trigger it: go to Other Situations click Done. The next question will ask about payments received. The program will determine the missing amount and add it to your refund. Please see: Is My Second Stimulus Check on the way? and the IRS stimulus website

There is NOTHING you should or can do ... once the IRS starts processing returns then they will automatically correct any errors in that section ... they did say this could delay the return but it is unknown for how long. The tax return will remain as Pending until the IRS starts accepting or rejecting 2020 tax returns on February 12, 2021. After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected. After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
