Thanks @macuser_22,

It's a little off this thread's topic, but they have broken something else. I have a family member that is rarely here when they want to start working on their taxes. Previously no problem. Now, even after I/TurboTax/Intuit got downloads accessible from the account, my family  member cannot log into the account to download the software. We used to be able to simply provide the code for the license. Now it seems to balk at them even logging into the account. It's becoming user unfriendly :(.

If the software is in your account then only you can login to it.

TurboTax is licensed to be installed on up to 5 computers that *you* own.  You should have no problem logging into your own account.   That does not mean that family members not residing in the same household can install your copy.

See license agreement.

2. Supplemental License Grant and Restrictions. In addition to the General License Grant you may: (i) install and use a copy of the Software on up to five (5) computers owned by you (at home or at work); (ii) use the Software only to prepare, print and/or electronically file your federal 2020 tax year returns and related state tax returns as described below; (iii) make one backup copy of the Software for your personal use as permitted under this license grant. Any software that is delivered by electronic transmission (regardless of whether a replacement copy is ordered) shall be deemed delivered on the date that Intuit makes such program available for download.

@macuser_22 ,

Nice of you to defend Intuit/TurboTax. Just because the computer is with a family member miles away doesn't mean I didn't pay for it. You are obviously very knowledgeable (miles ahead of me wrt TurboTax); maybe even influential with Intuit. Hopefully you can continue to help. Cheers

I purchased a CD version of Turbo Tax Premier 2020 and installed it on my Windows 10 desktop without any problem.  I'm trying to also install my Turbo Tax Premier 2020 to my Windows 10 laptop via download, but keep getting the following message after I enter my license code: "This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."

I was able to download my TT 2019 onto my laptop.  What's wrong with the Turbo Tax website?  Can I call someone in Turbo Tax support for help?  Getting very, very tired of this.

That’s the point of this thread. Last year you could download files once you purchased the CD but not this year. I’ve spent over 2 hours on the phone with customer support and they finally agreed it was their issue. They claim they can’t send the install files without a code so they did provide a new cod and link to files...didn’t need new cod, just the files. Just call them and be prepared to spend at least an hour explaining your situation.

Hey @Anonymous ,

I think your previous comment ("This is a TT issue and they need to fix it.") is spot on. License codes are certainly not my forte. But I'm not quite sold on some of the suggestions reported in this thread. The license code works fine with the CD. So it is a valid code. When trying to use this code online, the code simply has to be evaluated with the same algorithm that exists on the CD. If TT wants to use a different algorithm, that's fine; but then they need to evaluate the codes with two different algorithms (yes, that can be problematic).  That's assuming an algorithm is used rather than a list of codes for each version of TT. If TT is using lists, then why aren't the codes on their lists? Clearly I have no idea what's going on at TT, but they need to come clean. This lack of transparency is chipping away at my confidence in TT. Is this a simple mistake or is there a more serious problem? Why aren't the codes working? If they changed something, why did they change it (e.g. was there a security breach and the algorithm for evaluating the codes is out in the open where unpurchased license codes can be generated by others . . . if so, how did this happen?)? If TT is using lists, why aren't the codes on a list? . . . The longer they wait to come clean, the less likely people are to believe them.

Same issue here!!  Downloaded to computer and now trying to download to laptop.  Error saying already installed and associated with another account.  Turbotax needs to fix this issue!  We shouldn't have to spend hours on the phone to do so.

The process of installing TurboTax on multiple computers is the same as installing it on one computer. For more information please see the FAQ provided below:

How do I install the same copy of TurboTax on multiple computers?

@TiffanyL   That link is for CANADA programs, not USA.  It doesn't apply to us.

Tiffany, you obviously haven’t read the entire thread. Everyone here knows how to install TT on several computers...if we have the files. My issue was: I have CD purchased from Amazon. I installed it on my PC and wanted to also install it on my Mac. The Mac has no CD drive. Thus, I had no way to get installation on my Mac. When I tried to download the files using the page provided by TT I got the message stating the code was already associated with another accountant. Therefore I had to make multiple calls to your customer support until they finally agreed to send me a link to download the Mac files. Please do not offer overly simplistic solutions to a complex issue without first taking the time to understand the problem.

"This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."

@Anonymous The problem is, in the past when installing from a CD yiu were required to log into your TurboTax account (or create a new account if you did not have one).   That associated the license code with that account so future installations could easy be done using the same account ID and login.

For 2020, (for whatever reason) they are no longer requiring an account or login to install from CD.   TurboTax CD is  creating a "fake" account associated with the CD license code that keeps track of the installs.   When you later try to get a download to install, *your* account ID and login is required, but *your* account knows nothing about the CD install or the fake account.

Currently, getting a download pushed to you by Customer Support AND a new license code is the only workaround.   Simply getting the download without a new license code just repeats the error.

Just bought a license/CD pak from Costco and had trouble opening package.  After opening zip strip CD package with code would not come out.  Cut open side carefully and found CD glued to back of package with glue over license code.  Carefully removed glue and entered code, which was accepted except I get the message already associated with another account.  How did glue get on CD sleeve?  Some SOB open the bottom seam, took out CD, glued up the seam, reinserted the CD sleeve and disk, and then pressed the seam closed.  This is when they got glue on CD sleeve.  Buyer beware.  Intuit you have a problem.  Back to store to hopefully get money back.  Everyone needs to test package with code as soon as purchasing to be sure not stolen.

Hopefully Intuit will work with me to find the guilty party, and abort their use.

Stop buying the physical CD (which is a really a useless piece of plastic)  and buy the download instead.

The package I bought was from Costco and was a combination CD and download.  I intended to use the download.  I got the error message about already in use when I tried the download having NEVER loaded the CD.   This is an obvious theft  issue as the packaging can easily be opened, code taken, and package resealed.  Critter-3, your reply is hardly relevant  to the theft issue described.
