Thanks. Allow 3party access at CS website and clear cookies on web browsers fix the import issue (TT Windows desktop version).
Like everyone here, having the same problem "Login Unavailable" for weeks, so I decided to start fresh, like I had never tried before.
1. I went into Schwab.com and turned OFF the third party access checkbox, saved it. Then I logged in again to schwab and turn it ON and saved it.
2. I then went into turbotax, told it to get import from Schwab, then the Intuit login screen popped up. This time, instead of using any existing Intuit account, I told it to create a new account and used a new email address.
3. I then got the schwab authorization confirmation screen, said "Yes", and away it went, asked me which form I wanted to bring in and lo- and behold, B, DIV and INT were all present! The summary values were "$0.00" but the import worked fine!
Glad this worked for you. Had my hopes up, but it didn't work for me. Still waiting for a fix.
Appreciated david723 response but I was unable to get passed the approval page to Schwab. I was allowed to check the approval box but unable to go forward thereafter. I see that a lot of others are experiencing this problem with TT but still stuck. Like others, will think hard about using TT again.
Today, March 8, the import worked for TurboTax Windows desktop version.
It did not work yesterday.
I do not know if something was fixed, but I did the following:
1) after loading TurboTax, I logged into TurboTax.
2) (a) opened a browser (Microsoft Edge) and logged into TurboTax online
(b) opened a new tab (not a new window) and logged into Schwab.
in Schwab I chose to "remember device".
(c) in Schwab I went to SecurityCenter|ThirdPartyAccessToAccountInformation - Confirmed third party checked
(d) in Schwab I went to SecurityCenter|ThirdPartyAccessToAccountInformation - clicked on "TurboTax" arrow and selected both "current Schwab brokerage accounts" and "Automatically link...."
3) (a) Went back to TurboTax windows desktop application and opened current tax file
(b) selected Schwab for import and followed directions to log in. A screen to accept legal terms came up which I accepted (not reading since not a lot of choice in declining), and import worked.
(c) checked import and totals matched pdf of 1099 I downloaded from Schwab site.
Note on Step 2:
I did this because the TurboTax import popup for Schwab, and comments from other replies, implies a browser is happening behind the scenes to link TurboTax and Schwab.
Edge is my preferred browser in Windows settings. If Edge does not work, it might be due to a different preferred browser (like FireFox, or you have multiple browsers loaded on your PC.
So, if it does not work, open TurboTax and Schwab the same method in all the browsers on your PC.
I had the same problem! I cannot import my stock transactions. I called Turbo Tax last night and the service person, had not heard of the problem and was no help. She actually told me I can start manually inputting my stock transactions since it's not working. I told her I had too many transactions to do that and have always done it in prior years with Turbo Tax. Very frustrating! Charles Schwab is a big broker and I am sure there are many more people with this issue.
When importing from Schwab into Turbo Tax, you need to first log in to your Schwab account and then go to the Security Center and manually enable Third Party Access. Having done all, I still had problems when I attempted to import the data during the weekend, despite about a dozen tries. I suspect that the fundamental problem is that the Schwab system gets so overloaded on weekends when most people that use Turbo Tax prepare their taxes. I tried again Monday morning, and the import worked fine.
My original problem remains even after all the suggestions here.
BTW, the Schwab representative I got made sure I had given 3rd party access, which I already had so that Quicken (a/k/a Sicken) would work. So we reset it, signed out of Schwab and back in to re-authorize 3rd Party Access.
It is in the “Security Center” area in Schwab. But that IS NOT THE PROBLEM !!!!
The only large financial institution having this issue is Schwab. I give up whether it is on the TurboTax or Schwab end of things, what I do know is I have several accounts there that had a lot of transactions (gains/losses) that is going to be a pain to enter by hand for the 5 accounts I have there. Yes….. They each have a purpose and I wish they each had a million bucks in them too !!!!
I have used 3 different browsers (setting each one to be the default browser). None of them helped (Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge).
I do not know whether running a Mac or Windows makes a difference.
I doubt TurboTax is doing anything. Their customer service has gone down so much after they were bought out by a private equity company (I know, shocking) and now we must “rent” the program Quicken in order to use it. Just another way to get $$ out of the customer, $1 at a time.
Can you please clarify what error or what is happening when your trying to import your 1099's from Charles Swab?
When I attempt to import 1099s from Charles Schwab instead of asking for my Charles Schwab user name and password, Turbotax asks for my Turbotax user name and password. Is this valid, and why ask for this as I'm already working on my tax return?
It is a valid request from Intuit. It's to further protect your security. You'll need the Intuit TurboTax account and password to file your taxes electronically. This is separate fro account ID and password through Schwab. To import your Schwab account information, like 1099's, you'll need to allow TurboTax 3rd party access to your Schwab account. In Schwab's website you should also have granted 3rd party access as well. This you'll find in their security page. Good luck because many of us have had some pretty rough times this year compared to previous years. If you read all the posts relating to importing data you'll see what I mean.
It usually hangs and I have to try and exit out. I remember getting a 571 error if I remember. But it usually just hangs, especially if boxes for the username and password are visible, then it all locks up.
This problem existed for the Bank of America download as well. Fortunately that was easy enough to manually input. Sorry everyone is still having the problems with Schwab. I tried for a week, and finally deleted all my cookies, and that seemed to work. Good luck.
Problem: This is the first year that only a portion of Schwab 1099-int and 1099B was missing on the import. I had to print it and manually complete return. Thanks
That did not fix my problem. After three weeks of frustration, I gave up and entered everything myself. All I say now is Turbo Tax support sucks and I will be using a different software next year.
