Why can't i import data from Charles Schwab.  I contacted Schwab and they said the problem is on the Turbo-tax end.  The message I get tells me to check my internet connection, but the internet is working fine.  I cleared out the cookies.  Still doesn't work...

When I try to import 1099 documents from Charles Schwab brokerage account, Turbo Tax takes in my Schwab login credentials and just keeps spinning. I do not get an error or time-out. There is no issue with my internet connection. I have successfully imported documents from other financial institutions like Vanguard.

I checked my Charles Schwab account settings and in my security settings, I have given permission to TurboTax for third party access. Is there something I can do to fix this issue?

Try deleting your browser's cookies. Please see this Turbo Tax FAQ regarding How to delete cookies! If that doesn't work, try using a different browser all together.

After a call on Friday to TurboTax and to Charles Schwab, the only good information I received was from Schwab. They said the import problem is a known issue and they are working on it.  No time frame mentioned to fix it.  The support staff at TurboTax kept saying I must be typing in the wrong password for the Schwab account.  I verified that my Schwab account allows third party access to my 1099's so that is not the issue.  I have imported data for years without any issue.  Importing from another brokerage firm this year was fine with no problems.  Most likely, an software internal communication problem originating at Schwab.

Hopefully, TurboTax IT staff can work out the problems with Schwab soon.

This is a ridiculous issue, now does Turbo Tax not have this working?  Very disappointed.

I too had import problems with Schwab; tried multiple times over several days. Calling Schwab and TT was of no help ("we're working on it"). After giving up on getting the entire import (1099INT, DIV & B) I went to the 1099INT option and try to get just that info. To my surprise that got me connected into Schwab where I had the choice of how much I wanted. I was able to choose everything (INT, DIV & B). Maybe this will work for you if you are having problems getting into Schwab. Good luck.

@Lotar  Thanks for the report.  After trying many times and different ways, I followed your example of going to the interest import section & I got all my forms from Schwab brokerage.  Now I will remove the 3rd party access allowance.

I am very disappointed with Turbotax taking so long to  make progress on this issue.

I am having same problem as other users trying to import date from Schwab.  TurboTax support sucks.  Can't talk to a human or get any kind of answer online.  Schwab says it's a TurboTax problem, but they have no idea when it will be fixed.  Have used TurboTax for years with no problem importing data but this will be my last year assuming I can actually finish my return.

@calidianne You may have already tried all of these things, but this is what worked for me.

    1. I quit out of TurboTax completely and then restarted it to make sure I had the most up-to-date version. This allowed me to progress from the “check your Internet connection” error to entering my login credentials, where I encountered the “login unavailable” error.

    2. I checked in Security Center in my Schwab account that I had third-party access enabled (I did).

    3. I cleared my browser history. This is what finally made it work for me, although, like others, I did not see any $ amounts next to my 1099-Bs on the import screen, but all the data imported correctly.

Question on the browser history. I'm not sure why this matters but which browser history did you clear? Firefox, Safari, Chrome, IE?

I am assuming that you are using TurboTax. The Schwab  downloads go into Quicken. The paper 1099 goes into Turbo Tax. Schwab is never very accurate on the Quicken downloads. Schwab is notorious in miss-coding the transaction detail. It is by far easier to take the Schwab 1099 in hand and enter it into the Turbo Tax. The 1099 will be very accurate. If you have a multitude of stock transactions (capital gains), it can be tedious. I would not waste time on the Schwab transaction detail download. I would have to routinely make corrections into Quicken to what Schwab downloaded to me. The corrections are not financial but miss-coded content. That stuff really can cause you computer to hiccup, screen to flash, and day to be ruined. short term short sales also can be routinely miss-coded. Good luck.

Same issue here on TurboTax Mac desktop version. Get to login page and type in my information to get this error: Login is not available, please contact customer support.

Tried clearing all cookies etc. etc. but does not work.

I can log into my Schwab account outside of TurboTax just fine. Crazy that such large institutions like Schwab and Intuit cannot seem to make this work. Seems like an issue for over a week now.

I also can not load the Schwab 1099 info. The load works fine with Fidelity. I can't get to the dialogue box that asks for user name and password.

If you have TurboTax Online, you can clear your cache and delete cookies. Also, try refreshing your browser and even try using a different browser.

The problem is with the download version. It can't connect/download from schwab no matter what you do. Update, change password, etc etc nothing works. Please fix it.

I too am having issues trying to import from Charles Schwab.

I have accounts at Vanguard and Fidelity and they imported without a problem.

Charles Schwab says this is an Intuit problem.

I have a ton of info to input if I have to do this manually.  I buy and use TurboTax so I do not have to manually enter my info.

Intuit has sadly gone way down as far as their customer service and well, their products in general.  Was talking to a representative not long ago about how much better Microsoft Money was.  I am forced to use what we call, "Sicken" and yes, working in Quicken makes me so frustrated and sick.  Now TurboTax too.

Please try the following steps to see if this will allow you to upload your 1099.  First, try the information in this Help Article for how to import a 1099.

If those steps do not work, try this Help Article on how to fix a 1099 import.

One workaround is attempting to upload the form under the different Schwab accounts listed in the drop-down when attempting to upload 1099.

Once you have tried each of those, another workaround is to go to the Schwab website, change your Schwab online password, then log back into Fidelity to review the 1099s that are available.  Exit Turbotax, log back into Turbotax, and retry the process.

I took have had an irritating problem importing data from Charles Schwab after many years of doing it successfully.  Contacting TT was like talking to the air, and Schwab told me that they were first aware of the issue on Feb. 18th.  I responded by saying that it has been a long time since Feb. 18th, and I hoped they were putting pressure on TT to get it straightened out.  I will wait another week, and then I will request a refund of the TT program.

Same issue!  I've tried many times and it just tells me to try again later.  I had no issue with Fidelity ... just Schwab.  Fix it Intuit!
