My taxes have been rejected saying the AGI doesnt match. but the AGI im entering is the same number i received from the IRS transcript...HELP!!!!

Yes you always use the AGI from the Original return not the amended one.

My taxes have been rejected saying the AGI doesnt match. but the AGI im entering is the same number i received from the IRS transcript...HELP!!!!

I'm glad this worked for you, but I'm still not letting TT off the hook here. I also filed an amended return for the previous year (and you're right, amended returns DO need to be sent via snail mail), and I also had to dig up the original AGI. My return that was filed using TT was STILL rejected, though the identical return I filed using other software was accepted right away.

My taxes have been rejected saying the AGI doesnt match. but the AGI im entering is the same number i received from the IRS transcript...HELP!!!!

I am filing a joint married return.  I have used TurboTax for 4 years.  Have never had any problems until no.  I have received the transcript from the IRS.  Everything matches with TurboTax and I still have been rejected 4 times.  All calculations are correct.  I have seen people mention something about entering a "0" and then their return is accepted.

Questions about the "0":

1.  is this entered into the 2020 AGI?

2.  What does this actually do to your return?

3.  What will this "0" for next year's return?

I can not figure this glitch/error/problem out.

For the love of God, someone please help me.

I'm the guy who kicked off this thread.

The attempt to enter ZERO is when you are asked to state your 2019 AGI. Apparently the IRS uses the 2019 AGI to verify it's really you who is submitting your 2020 return.

So it has nothing to do with your declared 2020 AGI.

Good luck in trying to submit using the ZERO. I had to go to the Post Office and submit via paper.

The IRS requires your 2019 AGI to verify your identity for e-filing.

If you're paper-filing your return, you won't need your AGI because those are manually processed.

There are a few places you can get your 2019 AGI:

  • If you filed your 2019 taxes with TurboTax, sign in and go down to Your tax returns & documents. Select View adjusted gross income (AGI).
  • If you didn’t file your taxes with TurboTax in 2019, the best place to get last year's AGI is from the 1040 form you filed with the IRS. Look on line 8b. If you filed a 1040NR, it'll be on line 35.
  • If you're having trouble locating your 2019 return, the second-best place to get your AGI is from the IRS. You can order a free transcript of your return at the IRS Get Transcript site or you can purchase a full copy of your 2019 return. Both versions will include your AGI.

If you didn't file a 2019 federal tax return (or you haven't filed one yet), enter 0 as your AGI.

If you only filed a return for a stimulus payment in 2019 using TurboTax Stimulus Registration or the IRS Non Filers: Enter Payment Info, enter 1 for your AGI.

Married Filing Separately in 2019 but filing jointly in 2020?

Filed jointly in 2019 but are Married Filing Separately in 2020?

You won't find your AGI on your W-2 or 1099 form because those forms don't take into account over a dozen above-the-line deductions that go into calculating your AGI.

Then try entering 0 for the AGI.

When did you file 2019? If it was late in the year or you mailed it, try putting in 0 (zero) for the AGI. And see, https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-ge...

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

I'm having the same problem and I can print and file the federal but it says NY state requires electronic filing.  I can't file that electronically if I don't file the federal electronically.  What else can I do?

What you can do is ditch TT and file electronically using software that isn't full of bugs. I went with FreeTaxUSA and had no problems whatsoever. There may be others mentioned in this thread. Don't use HRBlock's software; they have at least one of the same bugs as TT.

repeated e-files gives me a rejection.  My husband passed away in May 2020.  Is this the problem?  IRS database keeps asking for AGI of my husband.  Enter info and fix it tab goes away and tells me to re e-file.  Do so, and get a rejection stating AGI does not match.  What do I need to do.  I am stressed out over this.

I am having the same problem.  The downside to sending in a paper return is that I've already PAID FOR FILING 2 STATE RETURNS that will have to be mailed, and that money will have been wasted.

I file my own returns and also the returns of 4 elders in my community who are very much at risk from Covid and are sheltering in place. I assured them that I would Efile their returns.

Printing out all 5 returns is NOT an option for me. A few of them are more than 140 pages.

I have used TT for many, many years and never had this issue arise before.

One of the first returns I filed has now been rejected 9 times!

ARGHH!!!

I also have shelled out $ 25 each to 3 returns so that means I am out $ 75 and I have no idea how I would go about getting that money refunded.

I have changed one of the returns AGI to zero and am keeping my fingers crossed

OMG, it worked!!!!!

Thank you TT community.

My guess is this - if you printed and mailed your tax returns last year, your AGI did not transfer into the IRS electronic system. The IRS underfunded and overworked and someone likely has to do a manual transfer of that #. Just a guess. I'll see if it works for those returns that I Efiled last year.

TT automatically puts last year's AGI into the box when you are attempting to Efile but they could create an alert that say that if the Efile is unscucessful, delete the entry and enter zero.
