If you need your AGI from last year to e-file but are having trouble finding it, you can just print and mail your return (you don't need your AGI for that).
Yes. You can get a free tax return transcript or an exact copy of your return directly from the IRS.
You can get a lot of information from the free transcript, which you can get online with a short delay. However, if you're looking for an amount from a specific form and line you'll need the exact copy, which takes longer to arrive.
Here's the differences between each type:
|Tax return transcript||Exact copy of your return|
|Includes most line items from your return, like AGI, and looks like this||Includes all forms and attachments|
|Available for current tax year and three prior tax years||Available for current tax year and six prior tax years|
|Free||Costs $50 (this fee may be waived in presidentially-declared disaster areas)|
|Ordered online at the IRS’s Get Transcript page||Ordered by mail using IRS Form 4506 (follow the instructions on page 2)|
|Online available same day, print arrives in 5–10 days||May take up to 75 days for delivery|
If you need a copy for your lender, ask them which version you need. Most lenders will accept a transcript.
