I have Windows 7. Will I be able to use the CD product for doing my 2020 tax return? If not, can I transfer to the online program and have my data from my 2019 return copied over?
Windows System Requirements
If you can't install Turbo Tax Desktop program you can transfer from your 2019 return from your computer into the online version next year. You need to have the file ending in.tax2019 on your computer.
If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version, expand the blue link if you used the CD/download last year........

The TurboTax desktop software for tax year2020 requires Windows 8 or higher.
You can transfer the 2019 tax data from your computer to the 2020 online editions. See this TurboTax support FAQ for the procedure - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/how-do-i-transfer-last-year-s-return-into-...
You have to use TurboTax Online on your computer to do this transfer (it won't work from a mobile device/mobile web, or in the mobile app).
Follow the instructions to finish transferring your file.
I have stopped using windows 10 because I got annoyed with Microsoft constantly "Updating" my computer as though they thought that it was THEIR computer, disabling drivers for hardware I purchased and disabling applications that I use on a regular basis. I purchased a TTax2020 CD online and I am trying to install TurboTax2020 on a Windows 7 computer. Is there a workaround. I am not in the least concerned about "Windows security". No one has access to my computer and data is saved on an external drive. My main computer now runs Linux to avoid Microsoft's heavy-handed control over my computer. I am now encouraging and assisting others with conversion to Linux. Grasmussen - former Windows application developer.
Unfortunately, there is not a workaround for installing TurboTax Deluxe 2020 with Windows 7.
We take your concern very seriously and wish to help address this. Unfortunately, in this public forum, we do not have direct access to your account, so we invite you to please contact our TurboTax customer support. team to assist your further.
I'm just learning that Intuit Turbo Tax Year 2020 doesn't work with Windows 7.
Wow, how compassionate. It's an awful year for everything in business. I cannot deal with upgrading my computer right now because overloaded with work and life demands resulting from the pandemic. Upgrading I understand I will not have access to certain of my files anymore (long story) (not sure about turbo files, haven't checked that out). And I cannot afford to buy a new computer.
I have been loyal customer with Turbo since the 1990's. The whole Intuit thing and Quicken changes and glitches have been such a thoughtless hassle over the years. And even Quicken changing to annual subscription only.
And not offering compensation of some kind?
Intuit/Turbo, you have any idea what people are going through outside of your comfortable corporate by remote? No understanding or compensation?
I will say this Community Forum of people here have been wonderful over the years
But absolutely disgusting of Intuit-Turbo. So disgusted.
Violence, Insurrections, Impeachments, Covid, Turbo/Intuit
Hey Reddit!?
@massachusetts1 If you’re using TurboTax Online, there’s no impact to you as long as you meet the minimum system requirements. Our latest products won’t work with Windows 7, because as of January 2020, Microsoft will no longer be providing security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7.
Please see the TurboTax FAQ's below for more information on system requirements:
Cass, I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I omitted to say that like many others here (and other similar topic threads), I won't use an online, or cloud type version. Not for me at all to take security risk of my info. I even postal mail my long return every year.
But I will ask since I discovered this option since writing here- Is the download (vs. CD) version of Home and Business 2020 compatible with Win 7? That would be a great help.
And if the download version is still available ?
Thank you.
Massachusetts
No. The Desktop download is the same as the CD. Same program.
I have a computer repair business I work with. I asked about the security on Windows 7 and he indicated to me that it is just to scare you into buying Windows 10. I can say this, back a year or two ago when it was "free" to download 10, it ate my computer for lunch.
I had to take it and get it repaired. The only other times I have had repair on this Windows 7 computer was two times I allowed friends to use it & they clicked on things they should not have.
Otherwise, I have not had a problem with Windows 7 and I dread the fact to get a new computer with Windows 10. At the cost of Windows 10, it makes more sense to just get another computer.
I realize I must IF I need Windows 10 as my computer does't like it at all.
Good luck. I can't say with 100% certainty that is the case, but it is my understanding.
I have windows 7, can I use turbo tax now?

TurboTax does not support Windows 7 when using the 2020 TurboTax desktop CD/Download software.

You can use the TurboTax online editions of your computer has Windows 7 as the operating system - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/
This person sounds like me. And could they have the info on the CD any smaller? I know small print covered the ass of the people selling something but the person buying it does not appreciate it. Next year will be TT's time to lose money. You can mess with people's pockets just so much and then they won't waste their time and money. Wake up Intuit - nobody appreciates what you did.
