Why can't we see the total due turbo tax before we put in our credit card? I see people getting charged a processing fee too, even if paying up front with credit card?

I'm not comfortable putting in my credit card without knowing the total

There is a fee to pay taxes with a credit card. Before you make the payment you can determine the amount involved on the TT page where you make the payment.

To avoid a fee you can pay with a check.

 Before you put your credit card number in, it does tell you how much it costs to pay for TurboTax. If you are not seeing it, you can click Tax Tools>>Tools>>My Fees.

Why can't we see the total due turbo tax before we put in our credit card? I see people getting charged a processing fee too, even if paying up front with credit card?

Thank you for responding, I am sorry I wasn't more clear.  I do not owe any taxes, so my credit card is being used only to to pay tubotax for their fee for my tax prep, which should be $40.00.  So, I should also not have a 'processing' fee because I am not using any refund to pay turbo tax any fees at all.  I'm paying up front with my credit card, for turbo tax, that's.  I've seen so many people do the same and get charged double, some processing fee that ended up on their credit card statement, when they paid up front too.  My issue is why can't we see the total due, before we pay with a credit card?  Same thing happened last year, I thought it was $40.00 and there were 'fees' that I didn't see until I submitted my payment.  Been using turbo tax 5 years and every year it seems to be more surprises and I cannot find out how to see what my total would be up front.  I am forced to pay with my credit card then get surprised at the amount they took.  Thank you!

Why can't we see the total due turbo tax before we put in our credit card? I see people getting charged a processing fee too, even if paying up front with credit card?

Hello,

Yes, I have done that and I see the 'fee' they are charging for turbo tax.  But the problem is, it says 'plus fees and tax' - but I cannot see what kind of fees they are trying to charge.  It's only AFTER I put in my credit card and submit payment, that I see exactly what I am charged.  My problem is, numerous complaints have shown people have done this, only to get additional processing fees (without owing taxes and paying up front with their credit card).  This is my 5th year doing turbo tax, last year, I had some 'fee' come up after I paid (again because I didn't know what the total was prior to inputting my credit card).  I was too busy, just let it go, but I am seeing people getting charged double.  Again, I do not owe tax and I am paying for turbo tax up front, so there should be no 'processing' fee.  It's disconcerting that I cannot get to a screen, that has the total to be paid, with everything broken down including taxes and if there is a fee (which there shouldn't be) prior to submitting final payment.  Anything I order on the internet, gives me that last page to verify information and order, showing the exact amount paid.  It's like turbo tax is hiding fees and we don't know until we click 'pay' and can't go back.  Hope that explains?  Appreciate your time.

Yes, I see that cost.  What I don't see is the hidden fees people are getting, like I did last year.  it doesn't show the taxes it doesn't give a TOTAL before I pay, and that is not right.  We should have the opportunity to see the TOTAL DUE before we click pay.  But your program doesn't allow it, it says the cost, the plus taxes and fees.  We are forced to put int he credit card and pay WITHOUT SEEING THE TAXES AND FEES.  What is happening is here are suddenly more fees, and we are paying more than we thought.  I see numreous complaints about people being charged a processing fee when they shouldn't. When they didn't owe taxes like me, and paid for the turbo tax up front, then then get charged a 40.00 processing on top of it.  WHY CAN'T WE SEE THE TOTAL DUE BEFORE CLICKING PAY?  All you who are employed with turbo tax keep avoiding this question.  I see how much the program costs, prior to paying.  I DON'T SEE TAXES AND FEES UNTIL AFTER TURBO TAX FORCES ME TO PAY.  Why?

Hello.  I keep getting the same response from turbo tax employees, and it's frustrating.  Can you help?  This was my last response to turbo tax, they keep saying the same thing and not answering my question.

@fearandforgotten We can see that you are confused about your fees.   There cannot be a "refund processing fee" if you are not getting a refund.   That fee is for using a third party bank to take your TurboTax fees out of a federal refund.   If you are not receiving a refund the third party bank is not involved in any way.  So you are seeing a fee for something else.   If you used online TurboTax there is a separate fee for federal and for each state return you prepare, and for any other "add-ons" you choose like MAX or PLUS.  Those are optional and you do not have to take them.

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons:

@fearandforgotten

You are referring to those users who have a federal tax refund and chose the option to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund in the File section of the program on Step 1.  This is after the full amount of the TurboTax account fees were presented to the user.  On the same page, under the total is written - plus applicable sales tax

The $39 service charge for that option is on the screen where the user chooses to either pay the TurboTax account fees with a credit card or pay with the refund.  The service charge is Not a TurboTax fee but a charge from the third party processor who handles the federal tax refund sent to them by the IRS.

There is no add ons, nothing.  I'm sorry but you guys are ignoring my questions.  Why can't we see the total due, before we pay?  I have seen way too many reviews stating they get charged fees, that they shouldn't.  I don't owe taxes, and I know I'm paying $40.00 for the turbo tax.  I put in my credit card information, and it will not give me a total and I am afraid of clicking the total, because it is AFTER I pay that I see the amount you are taking, like the taxes.  Regardless of all that, why don't you have the option to when we click pay, we see the total we are being billed as a break down, BEFORE we click final payment?  Everything I buy on line, you go through check out and you get to see taxes, shipping, etc, but with turbo tax, it's a guessing hoping there is no surprises.  This happened to me last year, I don't want it to happen again.  Why can't you make it where we see the exact payment before we click the final pay button?

In step 2 ... if you choose to pay your balance due with a CC the fees are mentioned but not computed ...

Or you can pay directly online at  www.IRS.gov/pay   but if you use a CC and not a direct debit from your checking account(free)  there is also a merchant fee ...
