The other computer is in the junk yard. It blew up. I am having problems with the new computer.
I have the CD and the product number. My new computer does not have a CD drive.
If you originally installed from the CD it seems you can not download it from online now. You can't do both CD and download. See the info on this FAQ
So you need to call in to get the download pushed to your account.
Or try copying the CD to a usb flash drive, maybe you can use a friend's computer to copy it. See SteamTrains post here. But this might only work for Windows.
And user insub posted a solution using the usb to copy the CD
Hello
I am trying to install the Turbo Tax CD on the other computer with the license code:
Please advise.
@oksana1212 Remove that license code from this public website before someone steals it and uses it. It can be seen by anyone who is reading in the forum,

Thank you very much. I was under impression that it was sent to TurboTax administration only,(not public)
That isn't working. I paid for a CD for Turbotax Deluxe last year and installed and used it on my desktop PC. But I got a new computer a couple of months ago and the tax return transferred but the Turbotax software didn't--which I assume is pretty common with a data transfer. When I followed the instructions on the website, quoted in this reply, I was sent on an endless feedback loop. I do have a Turbotax account, but when I got the message above, I DID check my account, which sent me back to trying to download it, which sent me back to that message. My new PC doesn't have a CD drive and the one I bought apparently doesn't work, so there's no way to reinstall the CD itself, so the only way to be able to use the Turbotax software I already bought and paid for would be to download it. But the website isn't letting me do that? Any other advice? And I wasted 10 minutes just now in Turbotax support's nightmarish voicemail system only to be told that support is now closed!
Ok ... first programming never transfers ... it must always be installed.
Next ... if you installed from the CD then you must always install from the CD. If your new computer doesn't have a CD drive then copy the installation file from the old computer to the new one using a thumb drive like you did with the files.
Thanks for the reply, but my old PC has already been "decommissioned" and based on my previous research and double-checking on the Intuit/TurboTax website, I believed that I could download the software directly onto a new computer, as long as I was only using one computer at a time. I also specifically bought an external CD/DVD drive just so I could download Turbotax again from the CD in case of any problems but the CD drive isn't working or at least can't read the Turbotax CD. So now I can't even open or read last year's tax file (for 2021) in Turbotax. Why should I have to pay for Turbotax Deluxe 2021 TWICE???? That's a ridiculous scam if it's true that I can't download a program I already paid for. I'll try calling Customer Support (which should have been open until 9:00 PDT on Sunday and I tried contacting them hours ago) this week, but am guessing that will be another time-consuming voicemail nightmare with long waits to speak to a human. I think this may be the last straw for me as far as Turbotax goes--even though I've been a loyal paying customer for decades!
Sorry ... next time do NOT use the CD ... use the download option ONLY so you can always redownload the program file. Now your ONLY options are to wait until tomorrow to ask nicely for a download to be put in your account or BUY download now.
Sorry if you first installed from the CD it may not let you download it. There is a problem if you first installed the CD. It doesn't connect you to an account you can find. You have to call in and ask for the download and a new License Code. Hopefully you get a customer service person who knows about it.

Also ... an external CD drive are cheap ($10 - $20) so you may want to invest in one so you can access any other CD programs/files you may have.
Thanks for the replies, especially from VolvoGirl. I will hope for the best when I call Turbotax Support this week, although I wish they made it easier to get through their automated system in order to talk to an actual human being. (Going through the automated voicemail system earlier today led "them" to think I wanted to file an amended tax return--which I don't!) I DID buy a cheap external CD/DVD drive--from Amazon--which was highly rated, to go with my new Dell Desktop PC, but it doesn't work! So now I can't use the Turbotax on that defective drive nor download it (as already bought and paid for) from the Turbotax website. The main reason I even bought an otherwise unnecessary external CD/DVD drive was to be able to install the last few years of Turbotax CD's I'd been buying for more than 20 years. I'm hoping that someone in Customer Support will be able to help me out of this Catch-22 when I try calling them yet again. Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.
Yeah, Even though you can install it 5 times, it seems you can only use the CD 1 time unless you install it on another computer using the other operating system like Mac. So your CD drive might be ok. Did you try other CDs in it? Like a Music CD. Check that you are putting the CD in the right way. Some people had the CD drive actually upside down!
