If you are receiving a message that the license code has already been associated with an account, you will need to reach out to our TurboTax Customer Care Team for assistance. The best and most efficient way for you to connect with the right person to get the help you need is to select the version you are using in the TurboTax FAQ below. We're open daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM PT.
What is the TurboTax phone number?
You can also try following the instructions below to download the software:
Go to installturbotax.com.
Set up a TurboTax account if you don't already have one. If you do, sign in. (If you don’t remember your credentials, you can walk through our Account Recovery page to see if you already have an account.)
You will also find further instructions in this link: I bought the CD, but my computer doesn't have a CD drive
The same thing happened to me. I called TurboTax and was told that I shouldn't have downloaded it to the first computer, because now there is no way to put it on my laptop. She said if I wanted it on my laptop, I had to buy another one. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said no then asked me why. I told her and she kept arguing with me. I told her there was nothing else to say to her that I needed a supervisor and she hung up on me!!! I'm calling back again, but this is very bad customer service. I am very disappointed and surprised.
I'm still looking for a way to put Turbo Tax on my laptop, but have not yet found a way. It shouldn't matter which representative I talk to, but that is what I've been hearing. It was also impossible to get to a representative by using the prompts. That's not very nice.
Well, I've been told by a yelling and interrupting supervisor that I can't put it on my laptop. There is no such thing as a code that only allows one return, so if she gave me a code, I could do ten returns and that wouldn't be fair. FAIR!!!??
So, apparently I should have known that I couldn't use the same CD for 2 computers unless I do any downloads from the internet I need first BEFORE using the CD to Download it.
So, I've spent 2 hours trying to do, what can't be done. Being frustrated with the automated system that keeps telling me to do the same thing, getting yelled at, hung up on and talking to one really nice guy named Donald who really tried to help me. It was really difficult to get to an actual person. Bad, bad customer service by everyone except Donald who was the only one who said he was there to serve customers.
When I said that there have been a lot of people over the years complaining about this, I was told that they can't please everybody.
So Intuit, who makes software, is incapable of making a code that only allows one return?
Maybe it's time to look into different software
I HAVEN'T EVEN USED THIS YET. WHY IS IT TELLING ME IT'S ASSOCIATED WITH AN ACCOUNT?
I PURCHASED THE DISK AT A COSTCO. I HAVE TRIED TO USE IT ON ONE COMPUTER. ARE THEY TRYING TO GET ME TO USE THE ONLINE METHOD TO HIT ME UP FOR ANOTHER PAYMENT?
I've dug out an old CD drive from my throwaway pile and used it and was able to load it on another computer. I believe this is the only way to use the CD you bought on other computers. If you don't have an old CD drive, ask around. Mine was in a pile to throw away, but it now has a new life. Bottom line:. If you put the CD into a computer drive before you download TurboTax via the Internet, you are stuck with using the CD only. I agree it is a horrible design and there should be clear instructions on the package so you know what you're doing to yourself if you load it to your computer first, then try to download it on another computer. TurboTax should take a big hit over this, but it seems they don't care because they're too big.
To PDM22,
I had the same issue, but when I called (I shouldn't have had to in the first place) I WAS given a code for one Fed and State download. What the supervisor was telling you is completely inaccurate.
To anyone still having this issue, here's the issue we had (which is the same as everyone else in this thread) and how we solved it.
The issue:

Using Turbo Tax Deluxe. Did Federal Taxes. TurboTax is requesting an additional $45 to prepare and e file State Return. Called Agent and they were of NO help.New York state had free e file for all residents.
"*E-file your state returns for only $25 per state return. The price is based on the date on which you e-file and is subject to change without notice.
"Prepare and print unlimited returns for one state at no extra cost."
WRONG! E-file fees do not apply to New York state returns."
How do I finish my taxes with the New York State return and e file them?

You may need to respond with more info. But I think I can tell what "might" have happened but requires further info from you.
You are correct there is no state efile fee of $25 for New York state. After you prepared the New York state return, the program should have recognized that you were efiling New York State and not charged the $25 efile fee. Or did you not even get that far? Since you mentioned a $45 fee, that makes me wonder if it was charging you for the NY state program download. If so, then you may be using the wrong version of Deluxe (there are two versions, as explained below.)
You said TurboTax Deluxe is asking you for "$45 to prepare and file your state return." That makes me wonder WHICH version of the Deluxe software do you have? Desktop Deluxe comes in 2 versions--one that is Federal-only, and another Deluxe version that is a combo version with both Federal and State programs included. If you have the version of Deluxe that is Federal-only, then that version includes no state program, and it would ask you to pay $45 to purchase a state program. The Deluxe Federal-only version is mainly for users who live in states that have no state income tax or those who otherwise don't need a state return.
On the other hand, if you have the version of Deluxe that is a combo version with both Federal and State programs, it should have allowed you to download the New York state program for free. Once you have prepared the New York state return and ready to efile, the program should recognize that it is NY state and not charge a NY state efile fee; i.e., no $25 fee for NY state.
I bought turbotax deluxe from Costco, my daughter use the code once and I cannot then download to my computer, is there a solution to this without having to call and waste my precious time on the phone? I tried and cannot get through.
