Tax Year 2020: Not Importing W2s

Is anyone else experiencing a problem where they are being forced to manually enter their W2s? The companies both my husband and I work for have not changed. Every year prior to Tax Year 2020, the software has automatically imported both our W2s. With this year's software, however, it is not. It isn't even asking if I want to import. It is simply taking me to the page to enter the W2 information after I enter the EIN.

Tax Year 2020: Not Importing W2s

Your W-2 might not be available for import yet.   Employers have until February 1 to make them available.  If you have the W-2 in hand, it takes about a minute to key it in.

Every 2020 W-2 that you received must be reported on your 2020 tax return, even if they are for small amounts.  Remember that each one of those W-2’s has your Social Security number on it, and that income was reported to the IRS by the employer.  You do not want to get in trouble with the IRS for under-reporting your income.

ALL of your W-2’s must be entered on the SAME tax return.

Go to Federal>Wages & Income to enter a W-2.

After you enter the first one, you click Add Another W-2.

W-2's come from your employer, and they have until February 1 to issue it.  Some employers allow you to import the W-2 through the software, but for security reasons you still need information from the actual W-2 to import it.  You might need to phone, drop in, email and/or snail mail an old employer to make sure they know where to send your W-2.

The issue is not that they aren’t importing. It’s that at no time is it prompting to ask if I would like to do so. In every prior year’s software that was the function.

Tax Year 2020: Not Importing W2s

I am familiar with how to enter the W2s manually, and have. I am 100% sure at least one of the W2s is available for download so my post was the fact that it is not prompting me to do so. While I appreciate the response, repeating the same thing as the prior responder really isn't a ton of help. It appears something is wrong and I was thus reporting it as such. I will move on. Thank you.

The ability to import a W-2 is driven by the EIN (Employer Identification Number) entered.  If TurboTax recognizes the EIN as one that can import your W-2,  you will see that option on the next screen.
