The reject email should give a code or reason. The 2 common ones are for a duplicate ssn or the wrong prior year AGI.
If a ssn on your return has been used on another return it could be just a mistake and someone else accidentally typed the wrong ssn on their return. Or if your dependent filed a return did he check the box that says he can be claimed on someone else's return?
If the AGI rejected trying enter 0 for the AGI. That usually works.

Re: Talk to a live person: I start with a chat to get a Support ID, then I call, and give my support ID. The say they my email (yes, I double check) address isn't recognized, even though my TT account starts with Virginia, welcome back to your 8th year with TurboTax! .... and Ihese have been my recent products TY2020 TurboTax Online Premier DIY, TY2020 TurboTax Online Premier DIY State, Turbotax Online State - Premier 2019, TurboTax Online Premier 2019, TurboTax Online Premier 2018, Turbotax Online State -Premier 2018. and so on.
They send me back to the chat . Which sends me back to Support. That's why I'm trying the community.
I have never gotten a reject code. I'm guessing I should just give up on TT. I suppose I should have given up earlier. I'm such a dork.
For your state or for your federal? When you say you can't file online, what happens when you try? Does it go through and come back with a rejection? Does it not go through at all? Does it tell you that you need to paper file?
If you are Married Filing Separately, do you have your spouses name and social security number on your return? If not, you would need to print and mail your return.
Do you need to attach a special statement to your return? Certain statements have to be printed and mailed.
Are you claiming dependents that someone else is claiming? If so, the only solution would be to not claim those dependents or for the other person to not claim those dependents. This would not be a TurboTax issue, this would be a duplicated Social Security Number used.
Is there something wrong with your Name, SSN or Date of Birth that is not matching Social Security Records? If so, you would be rejected for this.
Were you the victim of ID theft and need to include an IP Pin but don't have one? You can retrieve your IP PIN here
Are you trying to include your AGI, but don't have it?
Those are the most common reasons one would not be able to file online, however, if your return is being rejected, our phone reps can see the rejection reason and walk you through fixing the error if it is not one of the above reasons. If it is not a rejection and you are getting a notice saying you must print and mail, they can take a look at your screen and see why it is telling you this.
If it is a transmission error, you can try using a different computer, if you haven't already.
Thank you very much for your response, Vanessa. For seven years, I have had the same rejection for both state and federal tax returns. I've checked all of the reasons you gave, but none apply. I never managed to get help on this in the previous seven years, so I'm actually trying to decide to pay for TT again. Unfortunately, I have to assume finally, that this will happen again.

I'm sure that would be helpful. However, in seven years, I have never been able to get a human on TT, even with a Support ID from chat (see my previous posts). This time I wanted to talk to a person first, or find a way to try to file, and get a refund if I cannot e-file. For some years I figured it was because of my non-standard W-2 form, and I accepted that. For the last two years there's been nothing I can find that is non-standard. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth paying for TT for 2022, I haven't filed yet.
Thanks again. I appreciate your response from a real human being.
