You enter the license code on the activation screen. The program should prompt you when to enter it.  Please see Activating TurboTax CD/Download software for more information.

If you continue to have issues please see the link below to contact one of our TurboTax representatives: What is the TurboTax phone number?

@ JERRI JACKSON

Or did the program install OK, but at the end of installation, is the activation screen not appearing or is blank or has missing elements?   If the activation screen is not appearing at the end, or is blank or partially blank (missing elements),  then it's likely a Windows display setting that needs tweaking (scaling or screen resolution).  We can tell you the details, when your issue becomes clear.   Are you using the Windows version?

We don't know the context for your question, such as what prompted it, what any roadblock/error is, etc.  Are you in the process of installing, or are you wanting to download an installation file, or what?

I just saw that you also have another posting with this additional comment:

"There is a 16-digit # on the sales slip, but it won't work. How do I get something that works??"

It's not clear what  you mean by "sales slip."   And it's not clear how you used the number symbol in your comment.   Does that mean your 16 digits you've been entering are all numbers?   The license code is a 16-character combination of numbers and letters.

What did you buy--a download or a CD?   Did you purchase from the TurboTax website or from another authorized seller?

If you bought a CD, the license code should be on the CD sleeve or a package insert.

If you purchased a download, the license code should be in the order confirmation email and/or a confirmation you print out from a screen at the time of paying.  Is it one of those confirmations that you are referring to as "sales slip?"

Original answer:

This is  4-page cluttered thread with multiple users with various license-related issues and comments.

You would need to describe your issue in full in order for someone to know how to comment, since "won't work" is too general.  We don't know if you are getting any error message or what.  And "won't work" where?  Are you referring to an activation screen that appears at the end of installation, or are you referring to entering it to get a download of the installation file at the Online TurboTax website?   Are you using a Windows  PC or a Mac?

It may or may not be something that can be resolved in a public user forum.  If not, then you can discuss your issue in realtime with TurboTax Customer Support.

What are you trying to do?   Are you trying to get a download at the TurboTax website, or are you trying to install and activate the product?

Was it letting you enter only part of your code???  Where are you entering the license code?   Hopefully, you didn't use Online TurboTax by mistake.

Did you purchase desktop software (CD/download) and install it on your computer?   And are you now trying to activate the software at the end of installation, and you can't enter the entire code in the code field of the  activation screen?

For 2020, the license code is 16 digits (letters and numbers) in this format:  XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

For 2019 software, the license code was 14 digits in this format:  XXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

NOTE:  You don’t need to enter the dashes when typing in your code.   And it is not case sensitive.

Please explain more.  A license code is not entered "prior to installation."  It is entered at the end of installation.  Or are you at the end of installation and getting a missing, blank, or partially-blank activation screen?
