I'm finished filling out desktop TurboTax and it failed to e-file. the message said there is an upgrade required to file. How do I update without loosing the work I have already done
It will save your return before updating. But save it first yourself. Go up to File-Save or Save As. Haven’t you been saving as you go along? You should save frequently. Are you on Windows or Mac? You return is not kept in the program but in a separate file ending in .tax2025. It should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder.

Updates are released every Friday. Use the ONLINE link at the top to 'check for updates'. Here's how you can do a Manual Update.
I am getting the transmission error. It tells me to go to the online menu. There is no such menu anywhere in this software. But the "tax help for $60" button is easy to find.
Intuit has completely lost me as a customer. 20+ years of using turbo tax and now I am done.

You are required by law to offer a free e-file. And all you can do is tell me to mail it. Intuit is not a good company.
I just found how to get the updates. You click where it says "Turbotax" not ONLINE. Do you even know what your software is showing to customers? Do you care? This is ridiculous.
@user17723006112 Are you on a Mac? The Windows version is different, there is an ONLINE menu item. Also for Mac you can quit and relaunch Turbo Tax program to update.

Sure miss the concept of "Tech Support" for faulty software, or at least a place to contact the company...
TurboTax Error 54 (FAILED_VALIDATION) typically indicates that the software is outdated, cannot connect to servers due to security settings, or a form is invalid, especially common for 1041/CA541 filings.
To fix this, manually update TurboTax, disable VPNs/antivirus software, and ensure you are running the program as an administrator (right-click TurboTax icon).
It is March 22-23 and I have tried and failed to e-file my return. So this is not rresolved as far as I can tell. Please tell me what to do.
@MaryDalto What is the rejection message and rejection code you received when the tax return failed to e-file?
There was no code only a note: Your Transmission failed. "Transmission failed: FAILED_VALIDATION. ...
There is a full paragraph of "checking for updates" or "A federal return that matches the state return could not be found ... ""Looks like we've had a technical hiccup."
I am using the desktop version on my Mackbook Pro.
I've tried just sending the Federal version. get the same note.
