Had same issue. New computer running Windows 10 Home. Did everything Turbotax support site articles suggested. No love. Did everything ever user recommended. No love. Spent two hours with TT support person. Did everything they suggested: running in safe mode with every application turned off, tried multiple browsers, nothing worked. They put new non-Advantage program copy on my account. Same problem. No love. Person finally said they would refund my money but the line dropped before they did so and never called back.
Next tried to download and install on old computer, copy files to flash drive, and then copied to new computer. When I tried to install it said the download was corrupt and to download again!!!! Finally, copied unextracted download from old computer to new computer via flash drive. Extracted file and it worked but only by the grace of God. Was able to do my return but even then the import of Quickbooks data was incorrect. At least a half dozen errors on balance sheet alone. Looking for new software next year
Hi @arthurland
I've been having the exact same issue and still can't get it resolved. Were you able to activate the software?
I purchased and returned 2 CDs. Before returning the last one, I was on the phone with TurboTax for 4 hours and they were not able to fix it. Their advice was to return the CD and purchase the download. Same issue with the download. Installs fine but activation screen does not come up, I've already tried everything that I saw you post and nothing.
The only way I was able to install my Deluxe Version was to contact TT and demand an updated .exe file The person that helped me was David. He linked me to an updated .exe file with a new License Code. My bad file version ended in 2020.010.0101. The file that worked ended in [phone number removed]. It has been a very frustrating experience with TT this year
Using the following to avoid numbers being eliminated by TT because they say it is a phone number
A=0, B=1 & C=2
The Bad Version is CACA.ABA.ABAB, The Good Version is CACA.BAA.ABAB
I am in the same boat. purchased from Sams and cannot download

Are you using the Windows version?
The activation screen is a popup that is very quirky in regards to one's screen resolution or scaling in your computer's display settings. For some people it can be missing or blank.
In Windows 10 to get to the scaling or resolution settings click the Windows start button in lower left corner, then choose Settings (gear icon), then System, then Display.
First try the scaling setting. In your Windows Settings do you have scaling set to a higher value than the normal 100%? If so, change it back to 100%. Once the license code is entered and activated, you can later change your scaling setting back like it was.
If lowering the scaling to 100% didn't help, then it may be screen resolution. Try a lower screen resolution such as 800x600. Once you get the license activated, you can revert your resolution setting back like it was.
NOTE: If you happen to encounter a blank popup screen later on in some section of the program, you may have to temporarily perform this maneuver again.
I experienced the same issue. Thank you to MrPhotoman2010. It took 40 minutes of negotiating with the TT representative to get through all of the troubleshooting steps (restart, check windows version, etc.). The last step was to try downloading the software on Firefox. Oddly for me, this worked. Not Chrome, not Edge, not even Vivaldi. I'd recommend giving that a try. If that does not work then press the representative to give you a new download and code. If pressed they will do that. You need to be respectful and assertive to get them to help you out though. Good Luck.
Have a laptop with Windows 10 and RAM of 2 GB.
Turbotax 2020 won't install. Get this message:
Sorry but your system does not meet the minimum requirements.
Memory (2048MB)
Why would I get this message?

It should install on a system with 2 GB of memory.

Been trying to download TT20 and having the same extract file problem. Any idea whether to rename the .exe file by removing the date would work?
I found out my issue was admin rights. I was unable to add software to my new laptop. I had to delete windows and reinstall.
Just tried downloading TT Deluxe, entered my license code, etc. Download does not appear in my Download folder. Did get an .exe file but when I clicked on it got a message that it's no a Microsoft verified app. Thanks for help/advice.
You may need to do a search for the setup.exe file.
It could require temporarily disabling the viru-protection software.

I have the same problem with TT2020 software purchased from Dell. I have updated my Windows 10, turned off Firewall to let TT2020 in, etc. but the same message "Failed to extract file" remains. Is there a way I can get a replacement of the software from Intuit (the software writer}?
