You will need to log into the same account that was used last year. You may have multiple accounts under the same email address (see link below).  If you used our Federal Free product you will need to purchase PLUS benefits to retrieve that information (PLUS benefits must be purchased yearly in order to receive benefits) or you may request your tax transcript directly from the IRS: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript.

***Since you tried to get your copy online but do not have what is required, you may want to try to request it by mail. All you will need is your social security number, date of birth, and address. It will take 5-10 days to get to you.

If you believe there are more than one account, you may want to try the account recovery process:

I am having trouble getting my AIG because I have no credit card or no home mortage or car loan, so where do I go from here?

I have never filed taxes in my life because I was on ssi. I just got cut off because I got a job.

Now that I am working full time for the very first time, they say I owe taxes, and won't tell me how much, and won't let me open a irs account. I have never had a credit card, or any type of loan so there's no credit report.

What can I do other than waiting for billions of years on hold with the irs to talk to someone?

Your credit card, mortgage and car loan are not the issue in trying to get your AGI.

Your AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) is a calculated number on your 2019 tax return.

On your 2019 tax return, your AGI is on line 8b of the Form 1040.

When e-filing your return for the current year, use the AGI from the prior year's originally filed accepted return.

The current return will reject if the amended AGI amount is used. Do not use amounts from an amended return, a corrected amount from a math error notice, or a changed amount from the IRS.

If your previous year tax returns are not available, you can use the IRS Get Transcript tool. Try the online option first. If you are unable to obtain the transcript online, you can have one sent to the address the IRS has on record for you. You can find IRS Get Transcript here.

Finally, the last resort is to mail your tax return.  TurboTax will print an instruction sheet explaining where to mail the returns.

To mail your Individual Income Tax Return please review the following:

Completing your Return

  • Do not staple or attach your check, W-2s or any other documents to your return.
  • Submit proper documentation (schedules, statements and supporting documentation, including W-2s, other states’ tax returns, or necessary federal returns and schedules).
  • Use the correct form - forms differ by tax type and tax year.  Look at the bottom of the form for the required pages to submit.
  • Double-check your return.
  • Review personal information (social security number (SSN), address, date of birth) on your return for each person listed
  • Sign your return.
  • Taxpayers must sign and date their returns
  • Both spouses must sign the joint return, even if there was only one income reported
  • Mail your return, payment, and all necessary documentation to the appropriate address listed on the return.

I think the user mentioned those in the context of not being able to open an IRS account to look at their IRS account info, since the process at the IRS site involves one of those for ID verification.

@Shattis   Let's start over.  What are you trying to get?  Do you need a AGI to efile?  If you didn't file a 2019 return enter 0 for the AGI.

Who says you owe taxes?  Are you filling out a 2020 tax return?  It says at the top how much Refund or tax due you have.  You enter all your W2 and any 1099 income into Turbo Tax.  And enter the withholding taken out in box 2.  If you had more withholding than the tax on your income you get a refund.  If you didn't have enough withholding taken out you will owe more.

Look at your tax return.  It called Form 1040.  Before filing,  You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return

if you don't understand an amount post the line numbers.

Is there another way around needing a credit card or loan history to verify my identity so I can open an irs account?  I really don't want to wait for the mail to receive information on what I owe the irs.

I'm 30 now, i would be 90 years old by the time it arrives in my physical mailbox. (Lol)

You didn't answer VolvoGirl's questions, so we don't really know any more than we did.

You wrote:  "Now that I am working full time for the very first time, they say I owe taxes, and won't tell me how much."

We don't know what that means.   We don't know "who" the "they" are and how "they" told you.   Are you saying that you owe the IRS for unpaid taxes for prior years?   How do you know that?  Did you get a letter from them?  If so, it should have the amount, contact info, etc.

In any case, here's what is required to open an IRS account.

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/secure-access-how-to-register-for-certain-online-self-help-tools

As an option, to get an account transcript by mail, it can be ordered through their website tool online.  The statement there says "Transcripts arrive in 5 to 10 calendar days at the address we (the IRS) have on file for you."

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Since we're not understanding your "taxes owed" issue here in this user community forum, you can phone the IRS, if you wish, for information and assistance with your issue.  I'll go ahead and leave steps below on how to get through their phone tree to reach a live IRS agent, but it won't be easy due to the staff shortages due to the Pandemic and all the questions they are receiving during tax season and new stimulus payments.

Or if there is a local IRS office in your town, you can use this tool to find out how to contact them.  If they can't help you on the phone, you may be able to make an appointment.  Look up your nearest local office here:

https://apps.irs.gov/app/officeLocator/index.jsp

Or to phone the IRS for help, here's the info:

IRS:  800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

  • First choose your language.  Then listen to each menu before making the selection.
  • Then press 2 for "personal income tax".
  • Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
  • Then press 3 "for all other questions."
  • Then press 2 "for all other questions."
  • It may then ask for your SSN, but do not enter it.  Just wait.    If it asks for SSN a second time, still do not enter it.
  • Then it will get "tired", and you'll get another menu.  Choose 2 for "personal".
  • Then in the next menu choose 4 for "all other inquiries", and it should transfer you to an agent but expect a long wait.
  • I usually use a speakerphone so I can work on something else while waiting.

I am having trouble getting my AIG because I have no credit card or no home mortage or car loan, so where do I go from here?

My question was worded in plain english. Please learn basic english comprehension. My question has nothing to do with "AIG". Please stop trolling, and pissing me off.

Here's the question one more time dumbed down so that you can understand it:

"They" (I'm Referring to the irs) said "I" (referring to myself) owe them (referring to the irs) money for back taxes.

"I" (referring to myself again)  have never filed a tax return for any year other than 2020. (That's the taxes that are due for filling this year)

"I" (referring to myself)  was previously (that means before) told that "I" (referring to myself)  did not need to file taxes because "I" (myself) was receiving government benefits known  as supplemental security income for all of the previous years (all of the years before 2020).

Now that I work full time, (that means I have a job where I work 40 or more hours per week)  I had to begin filing taxes because I (that's me) started working last year. (That's the year 2020.)

The irs says "they" (the irs) are seizing my refund because "they" (the irs) say "I" (myself) owe back taxes.

The irs says "I" (myself) need to go to the irs website, to set up an account on the irs website so "I" (referring to myself) can  find out how much money "I" (myself) owe the irs.

The website (the irs website) says it (referring to the irs website) requires a credit check to verify my (that's me) identity.

I (referring to myself) have never had a loan, or credit card. (meaning I have never borrowed money from a financial institution)  witch means they (referring to the irs) will not allow me to create an account to find out how much money I (referring to myself) owe the irs for back taxes.

What can I (that's me) do to find out how much money I (me) owe the irs.

I mentioned several options above, and I'll mention another one lower down--the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service.

In my answer above I left detailed steps on how to phone the IRS and, hopefully, get through their phone tree to a live agent, although they are extremely busy and often hard to reach due to staff shortages due to the Pandemic as well as an overload of callers with tax questions, stimulus questions, etc.

I also left information about finding local IRS offices, if there's one in your area.

I also left information about how to get an account transcript to come by mail in approx. 5-10 calendar days (according to the IRS website).

If you don't qualify to create an online account at the IRS website, I don't know any trick to get around their requirements.  Maybe someone else will have a suggestion, or ask the IRS when you speak to them on the phone.

Here's something else you can try.

You might wish to see if the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service can assist you.   They often assist with problem cases, especially if there is an economic hardship.

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the phone number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate for your area.

http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-a-Local-Taxpayer-Advocate

If the Taxpayer Advocate can't help you, ask them to transfer you to an an IRS agent. A couple of users reported that at least for them, that was a backdoor route to the IRS.

If you have never filed taxes before and the IRS says they are keeping your refund to pay for those unknown taxes then you have much bigger issues to fix  ... contact the taxpayer advocate office for free assistance to get to the root of this issue as this seems like some kind of income tax fraud was done using your SS# .

I am having trouble getting my AIG because I have no credit card or no home mortage or car loan, so where do I go from here?

This was perfect up until "witch means..." at the very end of your response there. Still, you had me laughing really hard - that was the best frustration I've read in a long time. I'm in the same predicament as far as not having a proper credit card, nor any loans.. so  my solution is to go get a secured VISA credit card from ze bank tomorrow and wait a month or so (and use the card a little and submit my first payment, etc etc) so that Experian can connect the dots and give my finanancials to the IRS the same way they gave all of our financials to Russian hackers last year.  Isn[t it so ridiculous that we don't have a m'fing ID for every citizen interested in having one that the Government actually trusts? Why did I suffer the DMV for this stupid new drivers license that you need if you want to fly domestically in the near future? I just want to pay you, IRS. But I guess their fear is that someone might identity theft me and pay off my owed taxes, which we can all agree would be a true crime against humanity.
