A deposit from Tax Products PE1 is most often a Federal refund for those people who chose the option to pay their TurboTax fees out of their Federal refund.  That's handled by an intermediary company called SBTPG (aka Tax Products Group.)   In that circumstance the IRS sends one's Federal tax refund to one's temporary account at SBTPG's bank, and SBTPG then subtracts any product fees plus a $40 service fee ($45 for California filers.)  Then SBTPG's bank sends the rest of the Federal refund to your bank account.  The description for the deposit often says something like Tax Products PE1 or something similar.

A state refund comes directly from the state tax agency.    SBTPG does not receive state refunds, only Federal.

Will I still get my federal tax refund even though I got that back in my account?

I don't know.  It's not clear yet.   If that deposit from Tax Products Group wasn't your Federal refund (minus the product fees and service charge), then it's not clear what it was for.  For the vast majority of folks it is the Federal refund.  Perhaps your situation is different.   There must be more to your story if you think it was not your Federal refund.   Was it a stimulus payment; i.e., did a stimulus payment go to Tax Products Group by mistake, and then they sent it to your account?   That has happened to some people.  This is a user community forum, and we don't know what your situation is.   We can tell you how to contact SBTPG (Tax Products Group) and ask them if you don't know what the deposit from them was for.

Is your account a bank account or a prepaid debit card account?

If a debit card, did you apply for a Turbo Visa Debit Card and got a refund advance?

How did you pay your TurboTax fees?  Did you choose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, or did you pay upfront with credit/debit card?

Check this IRS "Where's My Refund" tool to see if your Federal refund has been released and sent.  See the tips below.

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

  • Be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status.
  • Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount.   Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a screen.
  • Also be sure you are using the Federal amount before any TurboTax fees are taken out (if you chose that option.)
  • Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.
  • You can also try phoning the IRS refund hotline.  I've seen it work for some users when the WMR tool didn't.  800-829-1954

Oh my.  I just noticed you're posting in 2 different threads on the same subject.

I just left you some info in the other thread at the link below on how to check with SBTPG (Tax Products Group) to see what your deposit was for.

After some thorough digging I have discovered that my return and deposit were off ($977.00) is because of the unemployment benefit my wife recieved (one week and some change) during the 2020 year as part of the original Stimulus package. IF the Federal Government feels that you received any unemployment benefits either by accident or fraud, they will automatically deduct it from your federal return.  You will NOT receive notice from the BFS Office prior to this happening and you will receive a letter AFTER the deadline for filing has past. This also includes past Child Support payments. If you have any Questions you can call the (BFS) Bureau of Fiscal Service . This is a call center so be prepared to listen to the eternal hold music for a while.

This is a public user community forum.  No one here is going to know anything specific about your situation, and you have not explained it any.  So I'll give you some general info, and how you can check on how your refund is being handled.

I'll assume that since you are posting in this thread, that you chose to pay your product fees out of your Federal refund and that you have received a deposit from Tax Products PE4 SBTPG (or a variant of that).    That is the descriptor for the intermediary bank that handles that process.    In addition to your product fees there is a $40 service fee for that payment option ($45 for California filers) plus possible sales tax.  If you are also due a state refund, it comes separately.

Do not go by any summary screen in TurboTax that shows a "Total refund" or "net", which combines the Federal and state amounts into one figure.    For your original Federal refund you submitted, go by the figure on your Federal Form 1040, Line 35a.

If it was the IRS that reduced your Federal refund amount, then they should send you a letter in about 3 weeks or so explaining why and your options if you disagree.

You can check the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool to see if there is any message about a change in your refund such as an offset.

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If you want to check with the third-party company to see what they received from the IRS, you can use the SBTPG refund lookup tool at their website.  At the page below click on the "For Taxpayers" portal, then on the next page choose "Check with TPG."

I elected to have my fees paid from my Federal tax return. If Turbo tax used this 3rd party and they subtracted the fees from that refund, then why was my checking account charged and withdrawn the amount of the fees from turbo tax? If i was forced to pay turbo tax the fees directly because my federal return was taking longer than 3 months to recieve from IRS then why is this SBTPG sending me a refund that is almost $2,000 less than the refund I was supposed to be getting back?

If the IRS is taking too long to send your refund or reduces it see.....
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/payments/help/what-if-my-federal-refund-isn-t-enough-to-cover-my-t...

Then when the IRS does send your refund they won't take the fees out again.

And, Why you got charged,
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-was-my-bank-account-auto-debited-for-tur...

You should have received about 4 emails asking for the fees. If you don't pay they will debit your account. You had to agree to it. Check your spam folder for emails.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted?
Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.  Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.

To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

The IRS is seriously behind in processing 2020 tax returns.  This is due to many factors, such as the pandemic, completing processing of millions of 2019 tax returns, stimulus payments, unemployment compensation exclusion tax refunds., changes in the tax code by Congress in the middle of the 2020 tax season and the like.

Millions of taxpayers have not yet received there federal tax refunds.

Go to this IRS website for operational status - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

The IRS is opening mail within normal timeframes and all paper and electronic individual returns received prior to April 2021 have been processed if the return had no errors or did not require further review.  As of August 20, 2021, we had 10.1 million unprocessed individual returns.  Unprocessed individual returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund and in some cases this work could take 90 to 120 days. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

What you should do: In most instances, no further action is needed but you may check Where’s my refund or you can view your account. If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

This is atrocious that TurboTax failed to mention this entity.  I will be contacting the MA Attorney General.  My refund is hundreds (maybe thousands depending if state return was included in refund).  Never did I see that a new group was handling the return.

Turbo Tax took their fees on Aug. 31.

TAX PRODUCTS PE1 TYPE: SBTPG LLC DATA: BTSN CO: TAX PRODUCTS PE1

@DadMomTaxHHMA What "new" entity are you referring to?   The SBTG has been the third party bank that handles refund processing for years.   When you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund you agree to have that done by the third party bank.   You also agree to having the fees deducted from your account if the IRS takes too long to issue your refund or if the refund is offset for a debt you owed.

Your tax refund was not sent to TurboTax.   TurboTax does not handle your refund at all.

Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC  (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.

You can contact them SBTPG, toll-free, at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website www.sbtpg.com

TURBOTAX TOOK MONEY OUT OF MY  ACCOUNT

Did you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund?  Is your refund taking an unusually long time to arrive?  Or was your refund seized to pay a debt you owed? if so, you signed an agreement that says TT can withdraw its fees from your account.  TurboTax would have sent several emails to you before they took the money out of your account.
