State tax filing

so my bank received a deposit of$97 and some change? Where is the rest of my refund

This is a public user community forum.  No one here is going to know anything specific about your situation, and you have not explained it any.  So I'll give you some general info, and how you can check on how your refund is being handled.

I'll assume that since you are posting in this thread, that you chose to pay your product fees out of your Federal refund and that you have received a deposit from Tax Products PE4 SBTPG (or a variant of that).    That is the descriptor for the intermediary bank that handles that process.    In addition to your product fees there is a $40 service fee for that payment option ($45 for California filers) plus possible sales tax.  If you are also due a state refund, it comes separately.

Do not go by any summary screen in TurboTax that shows a "Total refund" or "net", which combines the Federal and state amounts into one figure.    For your original Federal refund you submitted, go by the figure on your Federal Form 1040, Line 35a.

If it was the IRS that reduced your Federal refund amount, then they should send you a letter in about 3 weeks or so explaining why and your options if you disagree.

You can check the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool to see if there is any message about a change in your refund such as an offset.

If you want to check with the third-party company to see what they received from the IRS, you can use the SBTPG refund lookup tool at their website.  At the page below click on the "For Taxpayers" portal, then on the next page choose "Check with TPG."
