Yep, I have done that for the 1st return I worked on. Forms view for the W2 was much faster and I will do that for the other returns I have to complete.
I was just trying what they suggested so that it might help find a solution for all.
The Manual Update that they had me download actually took the program back a version and it also didn't solve anything.
This will be my 5th tax season to use the home and business version and I never had issues until now ( the same exact experience as other users above). I spent almost 2 hours with on the phone with your support only to be told in the end that it's hardware ... and was told to ask for a refund from COstco and try another copy ...I called again because I know my hardware is fine (my PC's specs is way more than the mininmum requirement to run this program ) and this time I was told that I can't be helped any further and that I am the only one experiencing this issue ....Obviously there are other users above that have the same issues as mine... And yes I tried to manually update as you suggested but your manual update is not the latest so it forces me to update to the latest one... so here I am .... nothing is fixed with the latest update ... and please your coders need to be involved in solving this issue ... again nothing is fixed with the manual update... and I cannot believe your support team blames user's hardware and not your software to be at fault.... Please fix this.. By the way , after I returned my copy of the 2021 home and biz, I bought another copy and this time I installed through a download and not by installling the files from the CD.... please please ... escalate this to your developers ... I refuse to believe that I am the only one experiencing this very slow (unsable portion of this year's turbo tax ) By the way ... the 2020 version works perfectly without lag in the same computer ...Thanks for reading
We need to keep this thread alive... Using the forms invites more errors ... and I paid for a working TurboTax 2021 which as of this moment is still a basically non functioning version
I sympathize. I tried HRBlock but I prefer TT and came back. My hope is that they fix the interface between forms and step-by-step for next year. Argh!
You only need to use Forms for w2s. The rest of the program works as always.
@SForrestLO I am running the latest version - I updated it today. The problem persists. Sorry I forgot to mention that.
See my responses here.
I ran the manual update which actually took me back a version - and did not fix the issue. I then updated to the most recent version (says it was released 2/17/22) and the issue remains.
I can’t believe we are having this issue and we are being brushed off as having issues with our hardware…. When I called today… they actually saw that my CPU was
running less than 10 percent of capacity or something like that… yet they told me … there’s nothing wrong with their software and it must be my hardware
Ok . I tried using the forms view when entering my W2s and it’s not that bad… and yes the other parts of the program seems to be working just fine in the step by step view… still Intuit needs to do more investigation as to why the step by step view doesn’t work as expected when entering w2s at least for us here in this forum
Yeah, they really need to send a tech person...physically...out to a few of the people that are having this issue to find out exactly what is happening.
..Is it only those with SSD's ?
...or only those with limited RAM? or perhaps Dynamic RAM on an SSD ?
... or disk Drive independent, but older systems?
.....or certain specific OS setups or statuses ?
Certainly the software rewriting that was done this past year for "the" specific areas of the 2021 software that are having this problem seems to be the issue.....and just those rewritten areas. Those places seem to be doing some new kind of subroutine call that isn't working right on everyone's system.
@SteamTrain
The problem is when you call support , they don’t even acknowledge that the issue exists because of their software. The tech person had remote access to my desktop and he/she saw how slow it was in the w2 portion, step by step view… he/ she also saw the programs running in my pc and that ram and cpu resources are not even running at 20 percent…yet in the end they decided it’s not software but my hardware and cannot even tell me which part of the hardware? That doesn’t make any sense to me… and they told me they don’t even have some sort of level 1 tech support…
Yep...they seem to be ignorant of this problem for some Desktop folks..
.like I said, the only way I see to get it fixed is to have an experienced software person go to the homes and troubleshoot it on-site.

@DoninGA have any investigations of this started in the CHAMPs private area?
@SteamTrain Nope. Not even being discussed.
I am having a HORRIBLE time with TurboTax Home and Business on a 2021 Windows 10 PC. Core i7 10th Gen processor.
Multiple times I have run CCleaner, closed all other programs, rebooted, etc and each time the program takes over 10 seconds WITH EVERY ENTRY. So far I see ZERO help from Turbotax in here other than the usual "it's your computer" answer.
I installed from a disk, and deleted the program, thinking I could use my product key to download directly from the TT site, but no............ TT says a "download is already registered to that product key. SUPER USELESS!
@BradK1 This issue seems to affect mostly the W2 s/ income section on the step by step view. As others have noted, the forms view still works well
