@Fwozniak1996

Even during “normal” times it takes about four months for the IRS to process an amended return.  During the pandemic and due to the severe backlog at the IRS it is taking much longer—six months or more for many amended returns.  Do not expect quick results from amending.  When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check.  They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns.  You can watch for information here:

I do not know where to find the 8862 form.

I also don't know how to fill it out.

TurboTax will help you complete form 8862 Information To Claim Certain Credits After Disallowance.

If your Earned Income Credit (EIC) was disallowed or reduced for something  other than a math or clerical error, you may need to file Form 8862 before the IRS allows you to use the credit again. Here's how to file Form 8862 in TurboTax.

  1. Sign in to TurboTax and continue to open your return.
  2. In the search box, search for 8862 and then select the Jump to link at the top of the search results.
  3. You'll come to the Earned Income Credit section. Select Continue.
  4. Answer the questions and eventually you'll be asked Do any of these uncommon situations apply? Check the box that says, I/we got a letter/notice from the IRS telling me/us to fill out an 8862 form to claim the Earned Income Credit.
  5. Select Continue and then Done.
  6. On the Since you got an IRS notice, we need to check on a few things screen, select the radio button next to No, none of these apply and I need to fill out the 8862 form.
  7. Select Continue.
  8. Answer the remaining questions.

The IRS may not have your 2020 AGI in their database.

Try using a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the 2021 tax return again.

I Am Trying To Track  Down   My 2020 Income Tax Return, Filed    02/17/2022    IRS Says They Have No Record Of It Yet Could You Please Help

@GW1149  How did you file your 2020 return?    The current online software can only be used for a 2021 return.   If you used the online software for a 2020 return you made a big mistake.    Or....if you correctly prepared your 2020 return using the CD/download software and mailed it in, you are not going to see any information on the IRS refund site for a 2020 return.  That site only gives information for 2021 returns.

Please explain what you did to prepare and file your 2020 return.

I filed my taxes but forgot to put the other two w-2’s in and they told me to make another account to file the other two w-2’s and when I submit it, it didn’t go through because it said I have a duplicate social security number so I’m not sure what to do.

I don't know who told you this but what you need to do is amend your 2021 return once it is accepted by the IRS. Creating another account will only cause the second return to be rejected.  Here is how to amend so you can add your additional W2's.

  1. Sign in to TurboTax
  2. Scroll down to under Your tax returns & documents,
  3. Select Amend (change) 2021 return
  4. Then Start amending my 2021 return
  5. Then, select the reason you’re amending and follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. Once you are back in your return go to federal>wages and income to report your additional W2's.
