The IRS may not have your 2020 AGI in their database.

 

Try using a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the 2021 tax return again.

@redeemme If you need help all through filing then you might want to upgrade to Live --- we can help with questions here but no one can call you from the user forum

 

Are you stuck on preparing your return or are you just stuck with e-filing?   What issue are you having?

My Oregon state return was less than what I expected. I called Oregon revenue and they explained that they reduced the return by 1,353, which is the same amount as my 2020 refund. I entered this figure on my 2021 return for state tax refund so I guess I don't understand. I wanted to talk to a tax expert first before I call them back. I also had bought insurance if this is any help. I have my 2020 and 2021 returns in front of me in order to help. It also might be helpful to talk on phone.

It appears that your state refund from 2020 was not applied to your 2021 tax return as you anticipated. If that is true, then you should have received a refund for that amount. I suggest you check your bank records for the receipt and if you find you did not receive it, you will need to call your state department of revenue and inquire as to what happened to it.

 

You cannot schedule a call from TurboTax using this forum, it is just for posting questions about tax issues. You can log into your TurboTax program and use the Help option to schedule a callback from a TurboTax agent.

@GW1149  How did you file your 2020 return?    The current online software can only be used for a 2021 return.   If you used the online software for a 2020 return you made a big mistake.    Or....if you correctly prepared your 2020 return using the CD/download software and mailed it in, you are not going to see any information on the IRS refund site for a 2020 return.  That site only gives information for 2021 returns.

 

Please explain what you did to prepare and file your 2020 return.

It depends.  It's not clear if you used e-file or if you mailed your tax return.  If you did e-file and you have your acknowledgement you should try using the IRS Transcript.  To obtain is an IRS Transcript, click the link to get started.  A transcript will show whether or not your tax return has posted in the IRS database.

 

If you filed your return with TurboTax you can use the link below to see how you would access your return.  This will allow you to print your tax return and mail a copy to the IRS if you are unable to obtain a transcript.  Be sure to include any W-2 copies with a return you mail and, if applicable, any other tax document that has federal withholding.  If you need to mail your return, be prepared for an extended wait.  I would suggest sending certified mail so you do have a receipt.

Once you have your return copy, and if it was already filed with the IRS, you can reach out to the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) if you are not getting resolution with the IRS about your return. This would be a last resort once the return has been filed.
