@linken5152 Are you using the Desktop download or the Online version? Have you downloaded the program?
For Desktop How to get started and install & Activate the Desktop Download program
I Purchase a TurboTax product and I am having difficulty locating where to install on my computer, the system is telling me to login to my account upon logging in to my account it does not direct me how to activate the license code.
A license is not needed if you are using any of the online versions—contact support for a refund. If you are using any of the desktop app, you need to download it from your account - under products and billing. Once downloaded double click on the downloaded file. As the app installs, it will ask for the license code.
I bought a license code and it won't let me use it without paying again. They did not send me a disk but it should be letting me install online because Ilready paid for it
I already have an account.

What exactly did you buy, and where did you buy it? Most people with a license code bought a license code for desktop software to install on their computers. Desktop licenses cannot routinely be used in Online TurboTax, except for a Windows 10 issue that I'll mention lower down in this posting.
Also, to add to confusion, this year as a new product, a few stores (like Sams Club) are actually selling a license code for Online TurboTax in addition to the usual desktop licenses.
What platform do you ultimately want to use--Online TurboTax with a browser or desktop software installed on your computer? Desktop TurboTax 2025 is not functional on a Windows 10 computer. Do you have Windows 10, 11 or a Mac?
If you bought a desktop software license (as opposed to an online license), did you download and install the software? Or do you have Windows 10 and can't fully install it? It you have Windows 10 and bought desktop software license, there is a way to move to Online Premium with your license for no additional charge for one Federal and state return and free efiling.
We can tell you more when we know what exact product you bought and which platform you want to use.

Hey @mesquitebean (and possibly @VolvoGirl )
I noticed in your response you wrote: "If you bought a desktop software license (as opposed to an online license), did you download and install the software? This happens to be my case. I thought my work laptop is up to date and compatible; turns out it is not. When I attempted to download, the pop-up stated that I have two options for tax year 2025: TurboTax Online - My purchase includes TurboTax Premium Online. Sign in and verify my desktop license code to continue OR TurboTax Desktop - basically update my computer.
I want to go with TurboTax Premium Online, which apparently is included. The issue is, I have no idea where I go to verify my desktop code once I sign on online.
@ Sankofa
What exactly did you buy? If you purchased the routine desktop software, then this answer would apply. A few stores also sell a new product this year--a license for an Online version, as @ VolvoGirl addressed above, which can be confusing.
If you bought regular desktop software (not the Online version sold in some stores), you can't just sign into Online TurboTax and expect to enter a desktop license code. To use the migration offer for free Online Premium, you have to do it through a special offer link, and I'm not familiar with your specific popup. I didn't use that method to get to the Online TurboTax offer and into Online TurboTax. All of mine was done using the features in the initial installation screens.
All I can do is tell you my story, and maybe that will help at some point. I'm using Windows 10, and this is what I did to move to Online Premier, which worked seamlessly. This is kind of from memory since it was a few weeks ago, so I may not have the screens in order. Here's my experience:
Even though I knew it would not work on Windows 10, I bought a Deluxe download license through Costco because it was their TurboTax sale time and cheaper than TurboTax, and I was aware of the migration offer that would be presented during installation for any edition of desktop software. So I then downloaded the installation file at the regular TurboTax product download site. I launched the installation file as though I was installing the software, and after a couple of screens, it recognized I was using Windows 10.
Then it asked me if I wanted to use an offer to move to Online Premium for no additional cost for 1 Federal return and 1 state and no efile fee. That particular installation screen had a button to use for the special offer if chosen. I don't remember if I had to enter the desktop license first, and then log in with the Online account credentials, or provide the credentials first then the license code. Or maybe both steps were on the same screen; I can't remember the order of all the screens. But in any case both steps were there with good instructions. Then it took me immediately to Online TurboTax in my browser, and I could see in the top left corner that I was indeed in Online Premium.
I started a return, and after the first few screens, and once the full menu had appeared, then out of curiosity I checked my fees by using the shopping cart icon in the top right. A popup then confirmed that the standard prices for Online Premium were crossed out and $0 displayed. And tiny print at the bottom of the fee section thanked me for using the special offer and that it would be free as long as I filed by the April filing deadline. I then transferred my 2024 data file into the online product, a process that also re-starts the return interview.
FAQ: TurboTax Desktop to Online Migration Offer Terms (Tax Year 2025)
I bought Turbo Tax from Amazon for 2025. I have a number [removed], but it won't take the last digit when I try to download. We have used Turbo Tax on our computer for 2023 and 2024.
Thank you.

Be aware this is a public Internet forum. You should not post any personal info or product licenses in this public forum. It's visible to all, and someone could use the license, which would prevent you from using it.
But I'm wondering if what you posted is even a license code. Part of it was redacted by the forum privacy filter. The visible portion in your posting looks like all numerical characters. The license codes I've seen have usually been about a 50-50 mix of letters and numbers. The license code is usually in this 16-character format: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX with a combination of letters and numbers. In any case, do NOT post it here in the forum.
After your Amazon purchase, did you retrieve your software license code from your digital software library in your Amazon account, or did Amazon send it in an email?
If so, I'm not sure what all you have done after that. You don't apply the license code from Amazon until after you have downloaded the product from the special TurboTax website and are in the process of installing it on your computer. The product license code is 16 characters long and is a combination of letters and numbers. It will likely have hyphens, but you can try without, and it may insert them automatically.
In any case, once you have the license code, if you haven't yet downloaded the software installation file, here are the instructions to download the file and how to install and activate it. When you download the software, it will ask you if you want the Windows or Mac installation file.

I was just having this same issue, but I just figured it out. So I thought I'd share in case you are still looking for an answer. Go to Your Account; then Digital Games and Software (under Digital Content and Devices section at the bottom middle); your TurboTax purchase should show there under Downloads and Codes; the license code will be the 16 digit code next to "Activation Key". Hope this helps!
