Has anyone used turbo tax online to gather crypto transactions, imported those transactions into 2021 desktop version, and been hacked?

Started 2021 taxes online, and exported crypto transactions for desktop processing. Now all online and desktop work is missing. Intuit online does not show me purchasing the online version (Amazon download purchase).

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

TurboTax would not have any information on a sale of the TurboTax software from another website other than TurboTax.

By default, any tax data file or PDF saved by you will be located in the Documents directory and in the TurboTax folder on the C: drive of the computer where the software has been installed.

Your description of what you have done using both online and desktop software is pretty confusing, but if you are trying to use online TurboTax to complete a 2021 return, you cannot do it.   Online is permanently closed for 2021.  The only TurboTax software you can use now for a 2021 return is the CD/download.   If you started a return online but did not finish it or file it, you need the CD/download, and then you have to file by mail. E-filing is closed.

You will be able to access the return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it.   But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.

Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2021returns is now permanently closed.

Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2021 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac  (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.

If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.

They are available from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time Monday-Friday.

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late.  If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe.  Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Started 2021 taxes online, and exported crypto transactions for desktop processing.  It is still there ...

Now all online and desktop work is missing.  No it is not ... you need to log into the same account, complete a few interview screens to unlock the prior year info ... see below.

Intuit online does not show me purchasing the online version (Amazon download purchase).  Even if you did pay for the online 2021 program it will only show up when you can access the prior year information.

Maybe you are in the wrong account … many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now to use the account recovery tool.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

Has anyone used turbo tax online to gather crypto transactions, imported those transactions into 2021 desktop version, and been hacked?

Understood. The online version was 3/4 completed. I downloaded the crypto information into the 3/4 completed desktop version. When I returned to complete the next day, both were online, and the desktop was gone, and the desktop version has no history of me even starting my return or my friends (whose was completed, submitted, and accepted - now no record).

The online version is supposed to auto-save, and it is gone. The desktop version has no record of me even starting the return, and the data file folder for 2021 on my USB drive is corrupted, marked read-only (which is not changeable, I can not delete with admin rights, and I can not copy the data (have screen captures of it only).

I have been using the desktop version for a very long time. This is the first year with intuit online due to the limitation of the crypto function on the desktop version.  Something happened.

Yes, the same online account and the return that was partially done is no longer there. The desktop application also has no record. The desktop data was started and stopped over several days. The data is gone with no record of ever starting the return.

@mkrysinski

First the online info is not lost ... you have to log into the same online account and fill in a few info screens in the 2022 program until  the HOME screen menu shows up so you can scroll down and open the 2021 tab where you can download the started return's .taxfile which can be opened in the downloaded program.  FYI ... in the downloaded program YOU must save the progress by either clicking on the save option in the menu at the top left  OR  when you close the file/program.   Failure to save as you go is your error not the programs.
