Trying to open a file I password protected a few months ago. My password is not working and when i click "forgot password" it says to answer the security question but the question is blank. I don't remember setting up any questions.

I have the same problem - I forgot the password [though I am pretty sure I entered the right one] and then it says answer the security question is there is no security question - just a blank space to enter info
I'm having the same exact issue. And there isn't a real person to answer questions at the customer service hotline number.
I am sorry you are having trouble with this. I believe you mean you downloaded your tax file and then assigned a password to protect it?
If so, the password procedure is outside of the service we provide, so it is not something we could help you with. If it was part of the procedures that we instructed you to do, then you can reach us in a couple of ways and we can help you.

No. That is not what we meant. Please allow me to try to explain it again.
I am using a downloaded copy of TurboTax Premium on my PC. I am not using the online version.
I've started a return about two weeks ago.
I saved the work in progress as a TurboTax file.
Today, I attempted to reopen that file.
The program asked me for a password to unlock the file.
I do not remember the password.
I clicked the link that says "Forgot Password".
The program then asks me to answer the security question in order to unlock the file.
THERE IS NO QUESTION SHOWING.
I CANNOT ANSWER A QUESTION THAT IS NOT SHOWING.
I posted the original question. I tried again the next day. Unfortunately, I am having early onset senior moment. I typed in the answer box and got in. I can't remember if I typed my password or a typical security answer I would have provided. I know I never set up security questions so perhaps anything in the box will work since no question is showing. Sorry I can't recall what I typed. I was just relieved I got in. Unbelievable that no one from Turbo Tax can help.
Unfortunately, the password protect on your downloaded file is strictly on your computer not accessible/resettable by TurboTax. See this article for information.
With all due respect, you don't even know how Turbo Tax software works. A feature was added to create an embedded password into the Turbotax file. If you want to password protect your file you select File then Password from the Turbotax software.
I am having the same problem with Turbotax 2020. I did not password protect my 2019, but when i attempt to open the 2019 return I am presented with a TurboTax dialog box asking for a password. If you hit the forgot password button the dialog presents the statement: Answer the security question below.... But there is not security question presented.

Hi, sorry it has been awhile. I think I either left it blank and hit enter or I entered a password that I would like to set up and it brought me to the next step. Sorry, I didn't keep any notes. Good Luck

@Goingu2 Not sure what you are trying to do. This is not the place to enter a password or change a password. This is the user forum where you can ask questions. Since you posted to a thread about not being able to access your account---is that your issue?
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.
Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax? If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.
