I do not see Mint as a viable option and do not intend to use it. I always organize, keep a handwritten list of each trip to a charity and attach the tax receipt but they never assess a value, leaving it up to us. I used ItsDeductible because it would provide 'approved' values for items. That 1) eliminated the guesswork and 2) In my mind, reduced the potential of problems if I were ever to be audited since I was not assigning random values. In addition, there values were actually higher than I would have assessed. As far as I know, no other product does the same thing. And ItsDeductible can be entered, edited and printed easily. In addition, it allows for easy integration and upload while I am in the process of doing my TurboTax taxes. One of the reasons that I have hesitated to jump ship to another tax software over the past several years. Please reconsider.
TurboTax gets more frustrating and less user friendly every year now. ItsDeductible is one of its best assets. It figures that this year I will be donating the most ever due to moving, and now I have to do it all manually! Very unhappy about this change because it is a very good tool.
The email I got said, "Today the tool is used by only a limited number of our customers and no longer meets the level of user experience we strive to provide, so we’ve decided to discontinue it." So clearly they don't mind losing "a limited number of our customers."
In addition, if it "no longer meets the level of user experience we strive to provide," then why aren't they offering an alternative? As others have stated, apparently Mint doesn't do what ItsDeductible does!
Finally, I went into ItsDeductible to export my donation information for 2021 and 2020, and there is no data! I know I used it both years.
Please don't discontinue this application. I use it every year and it's part of my record keeping. I'd even pay a fee to be able to continue to track my donations with It's Deductible and to be able to export them into Turbo Tax. Please reconsider.
Is it ironic that the email just came out after this thread gained some traction? I got the email at 2:47pm EST.
I think most are in agreement that cutting ItsDeductible is a business decision, but to end it mid-year is just crappy customer service. Folks have already started using it for 2022, and like someone said there's not option except to pdf your data. So to transfer everything to excel... will take a lot of time.
If TT does actually read this thread, please reconsider extending the deadline a few months or give us a better option!
Mint is useless for ItsDeductible. I don't want to use something that has access to bank accounts, etc. Also, it was automatically pulled into the tax form, which paid for itself when it comes to time and using Turbotax. that being said, if all the great features are being eliminated, because it might take effort on Turbotax part to maintain, then why should we or any of us, continue to utilize Turbotax when there are others who will provide an added service and ease for deductions. Now have to go to a site, figure out how many donated (clothing), then calculate, and add to tax forms yourself, is a pain and sad to say, not worth keeping with Turbotax looking elsewhere if this is the case. They all do this...which is put in your numbers. Wow, no services being provided, what's new for what you pay for.
You say MINT is a viable alternative to Its Deductible, however, I do not see anywhere in Mint that I can list Item deductions. How/where will I list and deduct every piece of clothing, tools, furniture, etc. in my Turbo Tax form for 2022?
Agree, they needed to give a list of those free resources. However, I did go to the Salvation Army and Goodwill, but they are a 'list', and it won't do much good, as you'll need to have a spreadsheet and upload, and add a lot of time in doing so.
Mint is only for monetary donations. what about physical items like clothes, furniture, others. how is that tracked in mint? I can't figure that out.
Disagree, and tax year is a tax year....however, maybe if they advertised it, there would be many more using it. I found it accidently several years ago, but if they let more people know it was there - I KNOW it would be a hit! Bad marketing.
Not true.
I know I'm moving on for sure. After all any of them can have you enter a bunch of numbers.
I spoke with TurboTax support and they indicated that the Community threads are monitored for ideas. Hence, I just posted the following, hoping that this will get noticed by technical development and result in availability of current item valuations for use by those of us willing to track donations manually with a spreadsheet:
I agree, Mint is not an option for what we are all looking for. How do we get in touch with a person at TurboTax to pose opposition to this being discontinued. Okay, then a small fee is better than hours finding a value, and what would be accepted. Whose to say? Always felt comfortable, there would not be any questions, yes, I do have receipts, but that doesn't show value like ItsDeductible.
I feel the same way. I do keep my own lists and pictures, but I have no idea how to determine average value of used items. I doubt anyone remembers when they purchased them and if you kept every receipt "just in case" you decided to donate it several years down the road, you would never be able to find them in the boxes of receipts.
I have been a loyal Turbo Tax user since before it was available online. I have Its Deductible records on file online back to 2007, but I used it in CD form years before that. The reason I never switched to H&R Block or Taxact was because I liked the idea of always having all my tax info in one place and able to be accessed forever.
I feel totally betrayed, double crossed and not appreciated for the many decades of business I've have given to Turbo Tax and Intuit. They say "If you want to find valuation data for donations for tax year 2022, there are several free resources online available from reputable charities," well name a few then. I certainly don't know any and am not finding any online.
