It is not possible to "reset" a password or recover a password.
There was an issue with certain past years when a password protected .tax file was transfer to a different computer. The only solution was to remove the password on the original computer before transferring the file.
Also it is not possible to ever open a password protected 2014-2015 tax file when the password was stored on a TurboTax server that is now gone since those years are no longer supported.
One of my returns is locked out. Pass word not accepted ??
How to re set it. Not my Turbo tax acct, but the one of 4 returns is locked out. ??
Mac gave you an answer ... if it doesn't work for you then contact TT support or reach out to Apple support since this is an Apple issue.
The site is asking for additional verification on an old mobile phone I do not have access to. How do I bypass this to reset my password?
Go here, instead: Account Recovery Request for your TurboTax Account to update your details.

I just saw that you had posted a couple of times up higher in this thread where you said you created the password-protected tax file on an old iMac and now have a new computer. I had not yet seen that when I wrote the answer below, so my original answer didn't know if you were using a PC or Mac.
Did you try to open the tax file on the old iMac (if you still have it) to see if the password works there on the old computer and can then be removed using that old computer?

This is a public Internet forum. For your protection, it looks like the forum privacy filter removed your phone number to protect you from spam/scam calls, which could even pretend to be from TurboTax. You should not post any personal info in this public user community.
Are you using desktop software and password-protected a *.tax2020 data file?
If so, your options may depend on whether you are using the Windows or Mac version.
Here's what TurboTax FAQ says on that issue:

Hi
i completed 4 returns fir my family & I
I am locked out of one of the returns.
my security answer allies me to open the others. Although I noted a password and security answer, nothing works to open the file. I can’t believe that TT software dose NOT offer a means to reset a file protected password ??
ive used TT every year for many years and I’m very disappointed that they don’t offer what most other systems offer. It’s ridiculous !!

If you are using the CD/download version installed on your computer then if you do not know the password or security question (that is a method of resetting the password) then you are of luck.
The whole point of a password it to protect the file from unauthorized access. If it could be bypassed it would defeat the entire purpose of having a password.
Hello !
Anybody home ? Who would not be aware of just about every web site whether it be Hotmail, the Govt all have safe methods to reset a password. I just did it for a Realtor website and my online banking routinely.
Who at TTx thinks it’s not a good idea ??
Are you serious ??

This discussion is about a password for the CD/download installed on your computer, not the web based version that can be reset. Web based services are totally different from your computer software because the provider controls the website any owns the server.. Only you have control of your computer and there is no "backdoor" reset method to reset the password on your computer. You pick the password and security question and if you forget both then you are out of luck.
HELP I AM HAVING A TERRIBLE TIME TRYING TO RESET MY PASSWORD. I HAVE BEEN AT IT FOR 3 hours
How do I access my password protected TurboTax Desktop file if I forgot the password?
TurboTax offers the ability to password protect your tax files in both Windows and Mac. If you forget the password, here are a few ways you can attempt to recover access to your file.
PC
Select Forgot Password in the password request pop-up to answer your security question. That will get you back in. Once you're back in, you can select Password from the File menu if you want to update or remove your password altogether.
Mac not using Keychain
If you haven't given TurboTax Keychain access, you can select Forgot Password in the password request pop-up to answer your security question. That'll get you back in. Once you're back in, you can select Password Encrypt from the File menu if you want to update or remove your password altogether.
Mac using Keychain
In some rare cases if you've given Keychain access to TurboTax, you can go to Applications > Other > Keychain access > Keychains > Login > Category > Passwords > find Intuit or TurboTax and right-click Get Info > Attributes > Show Password.
You will be prompted for your Mac password and it'll show you the password you used to encrypt your TurboTax file. This is may not work for all users.
Disclaimer
Password protection of TurboTax CD/Download files is set by the user. TurboTax can't assist in unlocking the file or removing the encryption. If these steps don't help, you'll need to start over in a new file.

Why am I getting a password reset option every time I log in to TurboTax Online?
Some customers are experiencing a request to reset their password every time they attempt to log in to TurboTax Online.
Try this
In many cases this is occurring because an incorrect user id is being used to attempt to login. This is occurring because your browser remembers certain information and as you begin to type your user id it pre-fills the incorrect user id. Please try the steps below to determine if this is what is causing the password reset.
