Page 4 of 1040-SR that is the "Standard Deduction Chart" is not being completed by TT on the top line for "Age/Blindness" section (from Standard Deduction on page 1). I have checked with others who have either an extra block checked on page 1 for age and/or blindness and their 1040-SR Page 4 is likewise blank. Why is this as there there should be an entry there for those additional blocks checked?

When you went through the questions in My Info did you indicate that either you or your spouse are legally blind? The question about that is on a screen in My Info.
Page 4 of the 1040SR is ONLY a worksheet and is not part of the return filing ... all that needs to be completed is the box on page 1 ... this page 4 is only really used for those filing paper returns not efiling.
Page 4 is just a chart of the possibilities. The actual deduction on on the 1040 line 12.
1. Page 4 at the very top has an arrow where to its right is a space for TT to insert the number of additional boxes checked on page 1. It is the only personal data that this page can carry.
2. Page 4 covers both blindness and age boxes. The number there could range from 1-4
3. Page 4 is treated as part of the return by TT as it is both specifically numbered as such and if you direct TT to print "only the return to be filed" it is one of the pages that is in fact printed.
Therefore my inquiry to TT for clarification of this matter.
Let us try this again ... the IRS doesn't need page 4 at all to figure the standard deduction at all ... using the info you entered in the MY INFO section the appropriate boxes are marked on the 1040 page 1 which automatically completes line 12 of the form 1040. This only comes into play if you are 65 or older and/or blind. Look at the forms carefully ...

The 1040SR is ONLY for printed paper returns. The space at the top of page is a place for you to *write* (with a pencil or pen) the number - when filing by hand on paper.
The "SR" for only paper forms that are printed in larger type at the IRS. Electronic forms in software are all the same. The 1040 and 1040SR are identical for electronic forms.
My point is, why is page 4 numbered and and printed if there is no personal info on it that is needed or used by the IRS, and why is there a line/space for entering the number of boxes checked on page 4?
Why not rely on the boxes checked on page 1 for everyone and the Standard Deduction generated on Line 12 by those boxes, rather than have everyone that files by mail confused by whether of not a blank page 4 needs to included in their filing?

As I said above- the "space" at the top of page form is a worksheet for *YOU* to write the number with a pen or pencil when filling out the paper form by hand.
As repeated from earlier answers - the 1040SR is for PAPER filing.
The only thing that you need to worry about is the 1040 line 12 deduction.
The IRS instructions for the 1040SR page 4 say:
Standard Deduction
If you are filing Form 1040-SR, you can find a Standard Deduction Chart on the last page of that form that can calculate the amount of your standard deduction in most situations.Don’t file the Standard Deduction Chart with your return.
It is simply a lookup chart for *you* to use for your information and is NOT part of the tax return.
Thanks for the Standard Deduction Instructions that addresses the issue of page 4.
I concur with this reply. Just a bit of more clarification/context. The message about not including the chart is on the printed instructions at the bottom of page 15, Standard Deduction, column 1. I also get why the question was posed multiple times. If the IRS didn't want the chart they should've put a disclaimer on it i.e. "Keep for Your Own Records" and not numbered the page.
Hi I file a paper return. I am not understanding why it is necessary to have this standard deduction chart going with my tax return. It seems to be an informational worksheet, but it is labeled at 1040-SR Page 4.
Am I really expected to include it in my filed return? I found it odd when I went to print that something that looks to be a "keep for your records" "information only" page is in the document for me to print and file to the IRS. Doesn't the IRS know the standard deduction brackets themselves without me having to attach the form for them?
Page 1 shows me checked off as being born before January 2, 1958
Age/Blindness
Spouse: X Was born before January 2, 1958
Is this the reason the page is printing and does the IRS really require the page sent to them with the printed return?
The Form 1040SR does include that information regarding the standard deduction on page 4. However, the Form 1040 and 1040SR have identical lines and do the calculations exactly the same way. The 1040SR has larger print. And...if you are filing by mail, you send in the printed tax form along with copies of any W-2's or 1099's that show tax withheld. When you print your return for filing by mail it will print out the pages you are supposed to include to mail to the IRS.
Thank you for replying. I am still confused on the question. I always attach W-2. This is first year I am over 65 so getting the additional amount in the standard deduction and seeing TT use this 1040-SR
My question is do I have to Print the Page 4 standard deduction page. It seems odd that it is there
This is the top line of the form I have in the pdf Turbo Tax is telling me to print:
Standard Deduction Chart*
Add the number of boxes checked in the “Age/Blindness” section of Standard Deduction on page 1 . . . . .
Reading through previous replies you are saying I need to "Write in" the number that is checked off in the "age/blindness" section?
Do I write it next to these ..... on the top line or do I take a Yellow Highlight and highlight the line of Married Filing Joint with 1 box checked and then "Your Standard Deduction is $27,300"?
@micheleaey I edited my reply above to clarify. And....You really do not need to stress so much over whether you mail page 4.
