Prior Tax Errors by Turbo Tax

I'm in desperate need of help. My taxes were audited, and though I don't have the protection I should be able to download my tax return and send in for proof that I have filed. My 2018 MO tax return was filed on the 2017 form by Turbo Tax. I have been trying to get help, but cannot get anyone on the phone to help me. This is not my fault and I don't think I should have to pay $900 for Turbo Tax to fix their mistake. 

Does anyone have a way to contact someone to correct this mistake? I got someone on the phone once, and now when I finally get through, they hang up on me. I don't understand what is going on.

Yes, I reached out to them, but they said they will only help me if I pay a $900 fee. Which is insane. I'm not willing to pay $900 for a mistake I didn't make.

You can't blame anyone but yourself for that.

You have to file on the 2018 forms.

Using 2017 forms means you have not yet filed your 2018 state return.

Tell MO that you are going to file 2018 on the 2018 form.

apologies, but what part of paying Turbo Tax to complete my 2018 mo taxes and then them filling out a 2017 form is my fault? 

when i download my 2018 forms, Turbo Tax literally has 2017 form saved. Why would they put my 2018 filing on a 2017 form?

I am not a tax expert, which is why I paid for my taxes to be completed. I paid for my forms to be saved for something like this should happen, but Turbo Tax made a mistake. All I want is a correction. That correction shouldn't cost $900.

TurboTax probably would not admit to such a mistake and even if they did they would not do anything about it, even for $900.  You should be getting a refund not paying.

What turboTax service costs $900 ?

is that the "redo the return on the correct year's forms" service?

Are you just confused about the tax years?   A 2017 return would have been prepared and filed in 2018----after tax year 2017 was over.   Similarly, a 2018 return would have been prepared and filed in 2019, and so on.

TurboTax saves returns in your online account for seven years, and then they are gone.  That is why you should always--always--always---save your returns as a pdf and print copies for your own records.

Not sure what you are saying will cost $900-----but TurboTax is not trying to make you pay $900.   It sounds like the state may be saying you owe the state $900 if you made a mistake on your state return.

Completely understand what you're saying and why you would come to this conclusion. No, when I go to download my 2018 taxes, the MO return is on a 2017 form. I download my taxes after filing every year & save them. I thought I downloaded wrong, same as you, but unfortunately did not. I filed my 2018 taxes on 1/22/19. 

That service that they offer said they would not help me unless I paid $900 for the service. I'm not making any of this up. It's bizarre & that's why I came here and filed different complaints elsewhere. 

When calling Turbo Taxes #, you have to pay as well to speak to a person. That's what the automation says. 

FYI Disclaimer: you can make this note, but can't help me? I'll call that number again, but when they come back with the amounts I need to pay I will post them here along with the names of the people I spoke to.

Hope you get this sorted out.   If TurboTax had actually been using 2017 forms for 2018 returns when you used the online software, we would have seen plenty of other users who had the same issue.   It is possible that you used the wrong desktop software and used 2017 software on your own computer to enter 2018 income---did you use desktop?   When you look at your federal return for 2018 what forms were used?  

There is simply nothing believable about TurboTax telling you that they will charge you $900 to fix this.    TurboTax does not even have a service to "fix" old returns.   TurboTax experts do not help with or work on past year tax returns.  

If you need to file a 2018 MO return, then  you could get the forms from the state and complete a correct 2018 state return by hand.  Or you could seek local paid tax help with this.

I filed online. My federal form is correctly filed on the 2018 form. I don't doubt that there are many people like me & I hope they got it sorted without a bill. 

Thank you for the advice. I'm asking some friends if they've an accountant that won't charge as much. I have to prove that I filed my taxes, which I did through Turbo Tax online, but it was submitted on the incorrect form by Turbo Tax. 

I'm a very straight laced person, you can believe what you want. I know what that woman told me. $900 is an insane amount of money. That's why I'm so upset & putting up with strangers calling me a liar to fix it.

I do not want you to think we are saying you are lying.   You would not be posting about this if you did not have a genuine problem.   I must wonder who you talked to, though, who told you that TT would charge you $900.   Either there was some misunderstanding or you did not talk to an actual TurboTax rep.   Fixing or amending past year returns is simply not even a service offered by TurboTax.   

Please try using the number provided to you earlier and use the option that says you received a letter from your state.

That is one of the numbers I called and they are the ones who said it would be $900 to fix the issue for me. 

The lady I spoke with on the phone did not give me her name, but when I called to schedule an appointment I spoke with a nice young man, Cameron. I missed their first call back, but promptly called them back, and the woman on the phone said that since I don't pay the monthly fee & am not a member that I would have to pay in full for them to help me. That was over $900. Now I don't know what this membership thing is, apologies. 

I called their 800 line and spoke with a lovely lady, who directed me to the website sent earlier. Now they hang up every time I call or I only get the automated message. I don't understand because we had a good conversation and she waited on the phone with me until her email came through with the link. & she waited for the link to work. 

I wish I was making all of this up. It feels like a bad black mirror episode.

You probably got redirected some how to a scam site masquerading as TurboTax. They are trying to fool you.

UPDATE: I had to contact the BBB and file a complaint. This was taken care of this morning by Turbo Tax & they fixed the documentation. Thank you to Ms. Michele!

As far as TaxResources Tax Audit Defense Customer Service Department, they have not responded or explained the processing fee required.

Anyone who has their state taxes filed incorrectly by Turbo Tax, it appears you should just go to the BBB and you will immediately receive help. I hate that this is the case, but you deserve to be heard & have what you've paid for completed correctly. Turbo Tax, please do better.
