I am the originator of this subject. Thank you for discovering this hopefully final Wis problem and providing a roadmap of how to deal with it. Today I got my 1099-R's and entered them into TurboTax. I had exactly the $48k Sch SB Line 16 problem you described, and was able to save a lot of time and fuss by following your detailed roadmap. And I strongly agree that TurboTax needs to make this path obvious to senior users.

Share your opinion--took forever to even find a downloadable version, and then had to justify why I didn't use the Internet version. Same thing happening with MS Office--they do everything they can to push you to use the internet 365 version, but I refuse, installing it on my computer and not giving them access to my work.

One possibility is that your dependent care credit is more than your income tax. The credit cannot be more than your income tax after other credits have been deducted. Also, you can't take a credit to the extent you have been reimbursed by your employer for dependent care expenses. You can look on lines 16 to 24 on your Form 1040 to see your tax and credits from your tax.
To view your form 1040 and schedule 1 to 3:
Choose Tax Tools from your left menu bar in TurboTax Online while working in your program
Choose Tools
Choose View Tax Summary
See the Preview my 1040 option in the left menu bar and click on it
Choose the Back option in the left menu bar when you are done

Temporary solution - TT says return amenders must wait until mid February to e-file w/TT. Even though you can e-file current year returns starting today, Jan 26. And, yes, you must change the filing date on amended 1040X to a 2025 date. (Why the date change? They don't know.) Will I finally be able to e-file my amended 2024 return? We'll see in February, I guess.

Sounds like it doesn't think you are filing a Joint return. Go back to My Info and check that she is listed and that under your name it shows filing Joint. Are you entering the Social Security in the right spot? If you are filing Joint there is 2 columns, one for you and one for spouse. Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099 under Federal Taxes (Personal for Home&Business) Wages and Income Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security Then the second line - Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Revisit button On the SSA- 1099 entry screen, if you are married there will be 2 columns, one for each spouse. If it doesn't show 2 columns then go back to My Info or Personal and edit the primary spouse to make sure you checked married and filing together.

This answer does not address the issue of the other income descriptions not appearing on Schedule 1. I’m sure both efrankww and I (who are using TurboTax Desktop) know how to print all the forms and worksheets, and in any event the issue has to do with which forms would be printed for filing.

US/CA resident. I sold a property in India and paid capital gains tax in India. I have reported the capital gains in my TurboTax Online/Premium return. However, TurboTax Online only allows entry of foreign taxes paid while working overseas. How do I report the taxes paid in India in order to claim relief under the applicable tax treaty (or foreign tax credit)?

If you are looking for a 2014 or earlier return you are wasting your time. TurboTax and the IRS save returns for seven years, and then they are gone.
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.
https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Start a 2025 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax? If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

You can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $30, an actual copy of your tax return.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

In order to transfer a past year return to the new return you need the tax file

NOTE: TurboTax and the IRS save returns for seven years. Returns older than seven years are purged.

I got an error for 2025 Sch E - QBI Carryovers from tax year 2024. Turbotax added a loss amount, on its own, to my 2025 filing, line G Schedule E suspended loss. My 2024 filing shows no negative balance from Form 8582, page 2, part 7 (VII). Before I remove what turbotax inserted I want to make sure I should or if there is something else I'm not considering.

I am not sure where this number can't be changed, but although it is a certain amount of work, it will be faster and more certain to do an "HSA Reset" than going through the interview over and over hoping to get it right.
Just remove all HSA data as shown below.
HSA RESET
***Reset***
1. make a copy of your W-2(s) (if you don't have the paper copies)
2. delete your W-2(s) (use the garbage can icon next to the W-2(s) on the Income screen)
*** Desktop***
3. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select the desired form (1099-SA (if one), 8889-T, and 8889-S (if one)). Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.
*** Online ***
3. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form
4. delete form(s) 1099-SA (if one), 8889-T, and 8889-S (if one)
5. go back and re-add your W-2(s), preferably adding them manually
6. go back and redo the entire HSA interview....you can enter your personal HSA contribution fresh.
