I feel like I've tried every way 300x but you can do a detailed step by step in how you just did it? It seems like some of the buttons are different like 'start' buttons that I don't see.
Are you starting with a completed return or a blank slate before you hit "Amend a return (make changes) after it was filed and accepted by the IRS?
Do you also then go to Federal Taxes - Other Tax Situations - Amend a return - Start?
Then W-2 'Update'?
etc.

I thought my screenshots were step-by-step. Simply go to the "Other tax situations", Amend and choose update or start and the 1040X should be produced with your starting information.
You're jumping from Amend 2020 return to your 1040x being fully populated so I'm asking what you did after you hit 'I need to amend my 2020 return'.
In between, were you asked to import or select your old return? That option never shows itself to me which was a problem I had with the TT reps. So are you reinputing all your tax info or did you start with your old return open before you started amending? If I do it the way you showed on the screenshots I will have one new W-2 added and no other information on anything.

Nothing. Once you select amend it is all there.

No, You don't "import or select your old return" , you *start* with opening the original filed return. Before you go to the "Other Tax situation", you must see the original 1040 for the return that you filed with the IRS. You are amending an existing tax return, not starting a new one.
You open the xxx.tax2020 data file for the return that you filed and amend that. (xxx is your file name).
I can't tell from your instructions but I think you're assuming there's an option to click on a previous return once I click 'I need to amend my 2020 return'. That's my guess, it's not stated above. Once I click to amend (the second to last image you have) I now have the option to add a new w-2. If I add it, that will be the only info that's provided, it will show my name as blank and a blank address and I (and the TT rep on the phone several times) doesn't know what to do. That's why I was asking if you could give a detailed step by step of what you click on each time. I'm sorry if this is frustrating but it's 100x worse for me to spend this much time because of a software error.
Before you try to amend the return OPEN the return and review it ... is it populated at all ? From what you describe you may not be opening the filed return.
It's populated. I'm opening my original return. I've done this every possible way described, including every way in these posts today, at least 5 times and none will populate the 1090x doc.
There has to be some scenario where TurboTax has a software bug and they allow one of you who knows how this works to be able to see my computer and see what the problem is (the people you call in to at TT help line don't know what to do). Otherwise the tips I'm getting don't allow the 1090x to populate and I'm going to get fined and it's going to be Turbo Tax's fault for their software bug. Is there anyone I can call or who can contact me? Other than the main help line.

You are not understanding There is no "option" - you *start* with the original tax return already opened.
Quit TurboTax altogether. Then open the Turbotax application. Use the top menu bar, "File -> Open Tax Rerun" and select the .tax2020 tax file you filed. Once opened, switch to the forms mode and review the 1040 and W-2's to verify that it is the tax return you filed. Then switch back to the interview mode and do the amend.
Sorry I cannot be more help ... save the PDF and the .taxfile of the original return to a removable storage medium for safe keeping and try the delete and reinstall option mentioned before. Start a fake return so you can install the state program if needed and make sure to run a program update at least twice (for a mac restart the program at least twice). Then try opening the return to amend using the amendment option.
Select your tax year for amending instructions:
For additional information please refer to How to Amend
You are not understanding. I have done exactly the way you just said every time I do it.
There are two ways to do this 1) start with the completed return (which you just described and I've done) or 2) try to amend it without an opened return and see if it imports. I've done #1, which you're describing here an insane number of times, plenty of times with TT help line people guiding me looking at my screen as it fails to populate the 1090x. What is the solution for a bug (or I don't know what TT has done wrong) that can't be solved with these directions? There has to be some way to have someone look at my screen that's not the people from the help line.
How can I get a refund from turbotax? I've spent dozens of hours because of their software error and will likely be paying fines because I won't be able to submit the 1090x.

There are not 2 ways - only one way. You must start with the original filed return. There is no software error.
You can call customer support for help. I do not believe they have anyway to screenshot with a Mac but you can ask.
There is no single published number because it changes contently depending on the nature of the call and agent availability. Following the link below will either give a current number for you to call or take your number for a callback.
I know you're not sure how to fix it but I uninstalled and reinstalled it from amazon and it still won't populate the 1090x. Is there no other option than to take the fine and hassle from the IRS and get TurboTax involved legally? There's no one who can screen monitor or help fill out the 1090x? I appreciate your help, it's TurboTax that is going to have the headache.

Nobody in this user-to-user forum can help other than give suggestions. As said before, only customer service can ask you for a diagnostic copy and has the tools to analyze what is going on. Don't stop with the first agent - demand they escalate to Mac support or 2nd tier support. The agents that answer the phone usually can only answer common questions.

Here is a TurboTax FAQ for contacting customer support.

I tried. Turbotax customer service doesn't want to put me through with someone a level up and they don't know how to fix the problem (they don't know basic level information on how this works). I'm going to have to try to manually amend my returns and then involve Turbo Tax if the IRS has a problem with it.
