@rjbellen wrote:I also was on phone with someone that was suppose to have my turbo tax bill delayed for 30 days, she kept putting me on hold 30min. This was last week. I get an email tonight stating money is being taken out on 4/10. I will never use turbo tax again Big difference in 4 days to 30 days postponement. I was under quarantine for 14days. No income from work.
Phone again.
You need to phone TurboTax ASAP to ask for a deferment, or they'll debit your bank account. You need to reach them today (Tuesday) before they actually submit the auto-debit request. Once they submit it, they say they can't stop it. You need to phone them today (Tuesday).
Hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern), 7 days/week
The FAQ below has a special phone number you can use in its first paragraph:

No numbers are in service and i filed for refund in January on the 27th and my refund has not changed status of processing since then. What happened to my refund?
Ur message is out of date
That they are. I did the same thing. By the time I found out they were charging a fee, they had all of my information and my tax return was done. I wish we could file a Class Action Law suit against them. I will look into doing so. You should too. If many of us do so, we can probably get one started against them, and maybe get our money back. Good luck!
In the same boat! Same thing happened
I do not work for TT ... I am just a responder on this PUBLIC forum and my style is a bit dry. I tend to "give it to you straight" as I try to respond to hundreds of these posts a day.
It is not Intuit's fault the warning emails went to spam ... that is on you. I would think that TT emails would be important enough to keep them out of the spam box. When you verified the email prior to filing (code was sent) you would have known it went to spam and at that point you should have corrected that situation right away.
It is unfortunate that we also have this virus issue at the same time but Intuit is not to blame for this situation either and if you had simply called timely they would have been accommodating and delayed the debit.
I did give you some information that TT would not ... the link for the IRS FREE FILE may be a better option if you qualify to avoid any DIY program fees.
I am not a fan of this refund processing situation ( and we do not allow them in my private practice) but they have been around as long as electronic filing and DIY programs. Using the BANK service is a legal contract and should be reviewed carefully before signing. The fees were not hidden and all the paperwork you signed was available for review not only at the time you signed but as part of the PDF you are encouraged to read before you file.
In short ... when you use a DIY program to complete your own return and you sign legal contracts then you have to take responsibility for your own actions. You cannot blame the bank for doing exactly what the contract told them they could do if your refund did not show in in a timely manner. And if you had used any other DIY company and choose the refund processing option you would have been in the same boat ... so you really cannot blame TT on this. Remember the FREE FILE option next year.
Like @Critter , I don't work for TurboTax either; I just post here regularly during tax season and occasionally get goodies from Intuit in return. (I know we were both "superusers" before they changed the title to "Intuit Community Champions" and asked us to sign contracts to keep our status. I signed mine and now have the "Champ" tag by my name; Critter doesn't so he may no longer be in that program.)
For many years, one of the most constant questions here has been "Why was I charged? I thought TurboTax was free." Those people, like the ones Critter talked about, failed to read the fine print constantly shown them once they start with the Free Edition at turbotax.com (part of commercial TurboTax), which is a narrow offering -- 1040A or 1040EZ before last tax season, a "simple" 1040 (requiring no schedules other than for EITC & ACTC) these last two years -- and becomes paid TurboTax if your situation doesn't fall into that.
For all those years, I've responded by telling them to use TurboTax's IRS Free File product, which has AGI limitations but NOT the form limitations of commercial Free Edition, and in recent years does NOT upsell you to paid TurboTax if you don't qualify. I know it's a good site because I've used it myself for years (including this year). Contrary to what a certain "public interest" website with an agenda against commercial online e-file sites has implied (some *other* IRS Free File providers used complicated URLs to hide direct access to their free sites), TurboTax's direct IRS Free File address has been public since before IRS Free File even existed: www.taxfreedom.com (which this year redirects to https://freefile.intuit.com/ ). I have patiently offered that URL to customers here for years (perhaps even decades), and still people miss it.
I'm not nearly as dry as Critter, but I fully agree with everything he said today. Intuit, though it has been considerate enough to offer TWO different free versions of TurboTax every year for a very long time, is still a private, profit-making company. It makes a lot of money selling TurboTax (online, mobile, and CD/download) because it's the best DIY commercial software out there, period. Perhaps that is why last year, despite the new rules and bad publicity, more taxpayers filed for free using the commercial TurboTax Free Edition than *ALL* IRS Free File providers combined (including TurboTax's own IRS Free File product). If you end up with paid TurboTax anyway (with or without the extra fee for paying with your refund) despite all the warnings, that is ultimately YOUR responsibility. Critter just showed you where you missed them. I fully stand behind his remark.
This is exactly what happened to me. Told me I didn’t need the health form, then the irs said I did now my refund can be delayed up to 16weeks. But the want to auto debit my account for a refund I won’t get for another couple of months due to their stupidity and or thievery.
I wasn't able to efile How do I get my money back. Had to mail my forms.

Are you using desktop software (CD/download) and couldn't efile the Fed and state? And are you referring to the state efile fee of 24.99? If so, we can tell you how to reach Support.
Or are you using Online TurboTax? There is no efile fee in Online TurboTax. The fees in Online TurboTax are for return preparation, whether efiled or mailed. Efiling is free.
You should receive an email prior to the auto-debit processing. Contact TurboTax Support as outlined ohn the email.
I still havent recieved my Federal taxes and now TurboTax is auto debiting my bank account. Why is that
To use the pay-with-your-refund option (aka Refund Processing), your IRS refund amount must be sufficient to cover your prep fees, fees for any additional products and services, and applicable sales tax.
When you get ready to file, we won't offer pay-with-your-refund if your IRS refund isn't enough to cover your total bill. In that case, you'll need to pay with a credit, debit, or pre-paid card.
If you get hit with a refund offset, what's left over might not be enough to cover your fees. Here's what happens next:
We'll send an email with instructions on how to pay your TurboTax fees (minus the Refund Processing fee, if any) by a certain date.
If the fees remain unpaid by the specified date, we'll send two more follow up emails asking that you either pay or request a deferment to prevent the fees from being automatically debited from your bank account.
Finally, if you still haven't paid by the requested date, we’ll send a final email letting you know that we're debiting the fees (minus the Refund Processing fee, if any) and that the auto-debit process cannot be stopped.
The same sequence of events occurs if the IRS is still holding your refund 36 days after your original estimated refund date, except that we'll also debit the Refund Processing fee (if any) in Step 3.
The provision is spelled out in the Refund Processing Agreement, which you agreed to when you opted to pay with your refund.
In addition, by clicking the "I Agree" button below, you electronically sign and authorize Intuit (through its third party processor) to debit the TurboTax Fees, Additional Products and Services Purchased and any applicable sales tax from your bank account number identified in the Agreement below, in the event that you do not receive a tax refund that is sufficient to pay for them.
I;m having a lot of problems in trying to file my income taxes. I;ve been rejected 3 times already & the problem seems to be that my 6 digit number for an electronic signature is a problem as well as my AGI for 2018.And I;m not sure what my AGI even is. And I was told to make up a new 6 digit number. Then told that I have 2 accts. & that most people would use the same acct.# for life when I had already known it for 2017. I don't know why I couldn;t have used the numbers for 2017 in the first place rather than asking me for new numbers. I only know how much my refund is to be but for now have no way of finishing up in filing it.
