This is obviously an error. I've never had to do this before. What is the point of e-filing if you just have to mail it in anyway? My return is as simple as they get, 1040 only W-2 forms, no itemized deductions, claims of loss, or extra forms. I don't want to see a bunch of "what if" or "it could be" smarty pants replies. I've told you the facts, there is nothing else to add. The only reply I want to hear is if there is any change in law from all previous years to 2024. If there isn't, I'd like to hear from TurboTax that this is an error and that they are fixing it. Thank you.

You didn't tell us what the reject code. You should have gotten a rejection code or message. It should be in the Reject email. A common reject is for the wrong 2023 AGI.
Try entering 0 for the AGI. The IRS might have processed your return later so the AGI didn't get entered in time. Especially if you mailed it. That works for most people. See,

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
Good question! There could be several possible reasons for this. For example, if you were assigned an IP Pin by the IRS due to a past issue with fraud, you would need to enter that IP PIN in TurboTax under "Other Situations." If you were assigned an IP PIN and didn't know the number, then you would need to either mail in your tax return, or use one of two options to retrieve it. The IRS provides a specific telephone number and webpage tool to access your IP PIN. To access this tool, you can google this search string, "get ip pin irs"
However, TurboTax would tell you this in the error message, so that may not be the reason. In my experience, TurboTax usually gives a more specific reason why the return was rejected. I hope you get the answer that solves your problem!
This is exactly the kind of "what if" reply I'm talking about. I didn't give you a reject code because there was no rejection. There was no "reject" email. This is a message that appears on screen after e-filing is complete.
All of the relevant facts, simple and short as they are, are in the post. My returns have already been accepted electronically. If you search the same question, you'll find many others asking the same question. It can only be one of two possibilities -- 1) there is some new law that started for this tax cycle.... or 2) it's an error in the TurboTax system. The people asking this question are saying the same things.... simple 1040 return with only W-2 income, no claimed losses, no itemized deductions.
You are now the 2nd person to add something to the scenario that did not occur. There was no rejection. It is a message that appears on the screen AFTER e-filing is complete. Another addition you have added - a situation with a PIN number. This was not part of the message either. Both federal and state returns have been accepted. Read the reply I gave to the other person.
No, there is no new law requiring the mailing of electronically filed returns. I was unable to reproduce the message on my end after successfully e-filing returns. Do you by any chance have a screen image of the message? Was the message referring to both federal and state and have both federal and state been accepted?
If it said you need to mail it would have been something else like a 1040V payment voucher for a tax due payment. Or to mail in quarterly 1040ES estimated payments for next year 2025. Or to mail in backup details for 1099B investment sales.
Sorry... nope, nope, and nope. It's obvious at this point that it was an error message. Did you search to see that many others are saying the same thing? Assuming TurboTax is always right might be a mistake.
I have not encountered any post-filing messages such as you described, besides reject notices, or directions to send other specific documents such as payment vouchers. It would be helpful to have a screenshot of what you saw.
There are some individual state and local forms that aren't supported for e-filing and have to be mailed. You can check the TurboTax Forms Availability Tool for the complete list. If a form shows as "Unsupported" in the "Ready for e-file" column, that particular form would need to be mailed.
Mine just told me the same thing, but the notice is gone now that I filed & I can’t find it anymore. I have a couple of other things, but nothing too crazy. Nothing was rejected & I’ve never been flagged in previous years. It sounded like the government is requiring you to mail in your return on top of e-filing. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the message… If anyone knows what’s going on, reach out!
There is not requirement to mail your return on top of e-filing. Did you actually transmit your return by pressing the orange button? If you did, wait to see if your return is accepted.

I got the same message
this doesn't make any sense, but it also doesn't make sense that this is the first year I OWE taxes since I have always received a refund and always claimed 0 exemptions.
To my comment above, is that what it looked like for you, too?
What do the instructions say; which forms is it asking to be mailed? Federal or state - which state? @Jtroutman007
For me, it says state, and it's asking me to mail form MO-1040v and payment to Missouri Dept of revenue... BUT it was e filed and it also has my bank information to do direct payment, so why would I need to send a SECOND payment?
I'm already frustrated enough that I owe taxes when that's the whole point of claiming 0 exemptions, so that you DON'T have to worry about this.
