Have had the same issue.. went back in to the I’d.me and now it’s asking if I received a letter and if not to have them resend one
After seeing all the responses to this post, I went back to the IRS website and then logged into the ID.me site and received a notification asking if I had received a letter with some 14 digit code, which I have not, so I have requested that letter be resent. However, given that this issue seems widespread I don’t believe that the majority of us were ever sent the letter in the first place. This is such a hassle and inconvenience especially since no one seems to be able to say why this happened and how long we’ll have to wait before we actually revive our refunds. I
Yes I received the same message but I haven't gotten a notice or letter. I did file early so maybe that had something to do with it.
I got that dang message 😡 now that just set my refund back longer now who knows when I'm gonna receive it do u no a faster way to verify my identity to get it going by chance??
yea same here I received the same message tried to verify threw I'd me cuz that's what it says u can do! to get the same dang message we r not able to verify ur identity here is ridiculous if u ask me !! Now who knows when we'll see our refund I was counting on that money to get me n my daughter a apartment we just got evicted now I don't no what I'm gonna do 😒 but good luck hope you get urs taking care of soon have a great night!🙂
Early filer's are subject to IRS program glitches which are all too common every year. My educated guess is that there was something in some early filed returns that the program got hung up on so the returns were put in a "side pool" until the situation could be fixed. One of the usual "holding pools" will require human interaction to release them so those returns may take a while to be released for processing. Some returns may be issued ID verification notices some may not. Again there is nothing you can do but wait for your return to continue thru the processing pipeline or for an IRS notification to be issued.
Damnit add me to the list
Here is an FAQ about handling identity verification requests from the IRS.
If you have not received a letter yet, you will be.
I don’t believe this is similar to years proper, there is a large issue. TPP said we won’t be receiving a letter.
To clarify your question, did you get the message from TurboTax or the IRS? Who is asking you to verify your identity and at what step in the process?
TurboTax does ask you to verify your identity to make sure you're really you so that your TurboTax info stays safe and secure.
Protecting your data and privacy is our #1 priority, and TurboTax uses the same encryption and security measures as major banking institutions.
Also, in response to the increasing tax-related identity theft problem, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is monitoring tax returns for signs of fraudulent activity.
The most frequent scam is when thieves use a person’s name and Social Security number to file a fraudulent return and steal a tax refund.
When the IRS suspects a return is fraudulent, the agency will request identity verification from the person whose name and address is listed on the return. Here's how to handle these requests.
In addition, if you have an Ohio State Tax return, there is an Ohio State issue. It appears to have been implemented by the state due to high volumes of fraud.
Per the Ohio Department of Taxation:
With income tax fraud and identity theft on the rise, the Ohio Department of Taxation (ODT) is committed to safeguarding taxpayer dollars by increasing security measures.
The identity verification letter is just one of the tools ODT is using to prevent fraudsters from receiving a refund as a result of identity theft.

What phone number did you call? I was supposed to receive my refund today but am still getting this message. No notices or letters either.
For identify verification I called [phone number removed] and that's where we are all getting the info about the glitch and waiting to call back once we receive the letter.
