No, I am all over the place. I will keep the step-by-step option in mind. Thanks for your interest.
Super Patch did NOT solve the problem.
Manual software update did NOT solve the problem.
No change to social security # but I did change my filing status from last year. Last year's shows up ok, but when I clicked 'update' nothing happened. I wasn't using step by step. To enter the 2024 data, I had to get out of the easy step section and chose the SSA form. Once I entered directly on the form, it did accept the input and showed up for 2024.
The Forms method may work, but we all paid for the Step by Step method when purchasing the software for download, so TurboTax should acknowledge the problem and fix it.
No that "jump to" only takes me to the screen that asks "Are you a U.S. citizen living abroad in one of these countries?" AND THAT GOES NOWHERE! Something is screwed up in the software.
Other changes for this year make me want to switch programs next year.
TurboTax has been going down hill the last few years.
I have this problem too. Am just trying to input Social Security earnings on TurboTax Windows Desktop using step-by-step. This edition of TurboTax seems very buggy to me and I have been a user for more than 10 years. You need to run it through another round of quality control checks because it is not ready yet.
exactly! Entering social security earnings via step-by-step is such a basic function of TurboTax that it's unbelievable this error wasn't caught when the software was being tested.
Is everyone who has been unable to enter Social Security using Step by Step with Deluxe on a Mac?
It is working in Home and Business for Mac. I am updating my report on this issue.
I am using the Deluxe version for Windows Download. In trying to enter Social Security using Step by Step, the program continues to go in an infinite loop. Specifically, when I click on Federal Taxes, then Wages and Income, then scroll down to SS and click Update, it returns to the same spot after waiting a couple of seconds.
@IronGeorge Did SS transfer over from 2023? If you are using the Desktop program, switch to Forms mode and delete the Social Security form that transferred over. Look for Social Sec in the left column, open it and click on Delete Form at the bottom.
I check the Form Social Security Benefits worksheet and found I had a supporting details entry for Box 5 of Line A. I had listed the 2 different payment amounts from sums on the details. I removed the supporting details sheet and went back to the Step by Step and the interview process went forward as normal.
This solution has worked for me but may not for you. Check if you have a supporting details sheet for Box 5 on Line A and try removing it to see if Step by Step starts working for you.
