My wife and I owed a large amount in Federal taxes for 2024 due to inadequate withholding; my W-4 was mostly to blame. I'm going to attempt to compensate for the remaining 8 months of 2025 by having an uncomfortably large flat amount withheld per pay, but I would like to monitor this as the year goes along and having TurboTax 2025 installed would be very helpful. At which point in the year is each annual product typically released? Thanks in advance!

TurboTax normally releases the beta version in mid-November.
TurboTax normally releases the beta version in mid-November.
I usually use the prior year TT to do some running estimate during the year until the next year's version is available. The only issue is any changes in deductions or tax brackets for 2025 etc will be slightly different so you have to compensate a little for those situations to make it work e.g. you can mock up a W2 from your YTD pay statement but maybe 401k contribution limits have changed, HSA deduction limits have changed etc, and maybe do the final tax table calculation by hand using 2025 tables. There may be other tax calculators which are up to date for 2025 more quickly than the TT release. Depends how complex your situation is - but remember to avoid underpayment penalty you need to hit 100% of 2024 tax (110% if AGI > 150k), or 90% of 2025 tax whichever is smaller, so your worst case you need to hit the "100/110% of 2024 tax" which is known but maybe more withholding than you need; did you work thru the interview under Other Tax Situations/Form W4 and Estimated Taxes to figure the amount you need.
at one time there was a message from Turbotax that it might no longer support windows 10.
I got the same message. And given Microsoft over zealous requirements for hardware none of my machines will upgrade. I just tried the instructions for moving to ONLINE, and of course that didn't work .. i tried to upload last years return and it said Sorry dude, that's no good .. would only let me uploaded 2023 which was two years ago? WTH. So no Windows 10, and the instructions TurboTax gives don't work (yet?). Off to a great start. TT should have said something about this WAY before almost September of 2025. My mother passed this year, now I have to create an account for her to do on-line. I have an Intuit account, but like I say, testing the waters to see if I could transfer my last filed return just failed.
@rdenney Right, you can not MOVE or Open a current year 2024 Desktop return into the 2024 Online version. You can only TRANSFER a prior year return into the current year, like 2023 to start a new 2024 return. So when 2025 Online opens in November or early December you can transfer from your 2024 return. Or if you want to test Online now you could transfer from your 2023 return and enter all your 2024 info again manually and see if it matches your Desktop return. That’s what I would do to test it.
Then for next year…..If you used the Desktop program for 2024, here’s How to transfer into the Online version, expand the 3rd blue link if you used the CD/download last year........

If you used the Desktop program before you may not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. All the Online versions do not have the same forms so you may need to upgrade to a higher version. You can only do 1 return. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2025 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.
@rdenney The link I posted above doesn't seem to work any more. Here's a couple other links

The first estimated payment is for Jan1 - March31 due Apr 15.
If your estimated tax plus withholding is not 25% of your Required Annual Payment ,
then you can be penalized, This is the simplified formula, default.
Bulking up the second payment to reach 50% can zero your penalty on the 2nd period.
Otherwise, use Form 2210 Schedule AI to further reduce or eliminate penalties,
Required Annual Payment is the smaller of 90% of the year's tax or
100% ( 110% for certain high income taxpayers) of the prior year's tax.
Does TurboTax realize how many customers it might lose by requiring Windows 11???? Neither laptop will upgrade to Windows11, because of the processor, which I can't do anything about!!!!
Without forms mode, I'm sunk, since I use both the interview and forms mode when doing my taxes. Sometimes forms mode is a quicker way to find the data entry point I am looking for. I also use the blank form to submit clarifications to other forms, such as medical expenses. Unfortunately, it looks like I need to buy another laptop just to use TurboTax for 2025 -- not for any other reason. It is ridiculous. The consumer should be aware of and willingly take the risk of any Win10 security flaws. For TurboTax to put this type of burden on the consumer is just plain WRONG. Not having the actual return on my computer is also a problem. I don't like the idea of Intuit having all my information and hoping they will keep it safe. What happens if I need to amend it in the future? Will the online version go back 3 years for an amendment. One year I amended the same return twice. I really dread going to another software package. I've been using turbotax for at least 20 or 30 years or more.
Same for Mac users. They'll now require Sonoma. That excludes ALOT of mac. Especially troublesome because the did the same thing to Mac users just a couple of years ago. Plus you have to choose your format to download the software. Long gone are the days you could get a CD that ran on both, making it easier to find a compatible computer.
@user17573500724 You can buy an install CD for 2024 for $10 after you buy the download and a License Code. Don't know if you will be able to get a CD for 2025.

@user17573500724 they do it whenever the OS falls out of support so as long as Apple is pulling support on an OS, Intuit will follow suit. Same with Windows 10 which remains out of technical unsupport from this October other than the ESU program to keep machines viable with critical/important security patches during replacement.
The message from Intuit is - keep your H/W and OS current, or use online, or use something else, they are ok with losing "low revenue" desktop users as long as their online revenue is growing. Desktop revenue $200mil is not nothing, but only 1% of their total $20+bn revenue, 10% of their overall Turbotax user base, and declining 5% annually while online/live is growing 10%; it's just not the same business as it was 20 years ago. We'll see in a year how all these decisions affected user numbers and revenues but it's unlikely to be material to their bottom line - it may even help boost it.
I was in the same situation I thought i was going to have to buy a new computer but found a program online that will bypass the microsoft message and upgrade your computer from Windows 10 to Windows 11 inspite of the message that you cannot. Converted a few months ago and all is good just waiting for the 2025 release now. Do a search you will be very happy you did!
I did the same. Very easy, all you need to do is either modify or add one line to the Registry. Took me 10 minutes to set up the update for my first computer, then less than a minute for my next two computers. The actual upgrade take 15-30 minutes depending on the speed of your desktop.
My computer was older, and did not support Windows 11. I did do a search for a walk around and used this youtube presentation, and it worked. It took a while but no problems and I was able to upgrade to windows 11.
