As I said, I called and I was told to contact Amazon since I did not buy the product from Turbotax directly.
Not true. Like the gentleman described, I too tried to download a CD on to my son's computer after I downloaded the CD on to my computer. It wouldn't let me! It says "it is associated with a different account". What account are they referring too? I had an older Intuit account when I did my taxes on line. Do I need to set up another account?.
If you are receiving the error message "it is associated with a different account," when inputting your license code, you would want to reach out to TurboTax Customer Support for assistance.
How can I be more clear in my explanation and dilemma. I recently purchased from Costco, my 2022 TT 'Home and Business'. Clearly stated in the TT container, " 2 ways to install, CD or Download". As in past years I chose to install CD in my PC. Additionally on the container is stated that this can be used for five federal returns in 5 computers. That was the selling feature to me, as both my son and my tax accountant could both use the disc on their computers. There is NO mention in TT instructions that the computer must either all be PC'S or Apple and can't mix the two! I successfully inserted the disc into my PC and ran the program. However, after giving the disc to my son, to load on to his Apple, it was denied, with the explanation by TT that the License code has been used by another account and unable to download.
I called your 'customer specialist, who was admittedly 1 week employed, and asked what gives. After 15 minutes of waiting she came back to explain, as/per her supervisor, "the 5 computers must either be Apple or PC and can't mix the". ( his name was John). I replied that no where on the container was that mentioned. WHAT GIVES!!!
I believe if your son use the cd to install it on a pc it would work. My son did. I read somewhere if you use the cd on a pc then it would not work on a Mac or Vice versa. I believe TurboTax has not worked out a more seamless implementation with their third parties even after all these years. In their greed they want their customers to buy TurboTax twice each for a separate operating systems. Pc/Mac means pc or Mac mutually exclusive, I think. Almost worth buying a new pc than to talk to TurboTax so called support. Sigh!
What is not explained clearly is the fact that you cannot easily "mix and match" the installations ... if you use the CD for one installation you must do so for them all and the same with the download. But if you want to use both the CD and MAC options you must only use the CD option.
Another user found and posted the trick he found to avoid all of the limitations :
To fix this error please follow the instructions below:
Step 1: Please go to www.turbotax.com
Step 2: Then click on the Do It Yourself Tab on the top menu bar
(The menu bar is located beside intuit TurboTax logo)
Step 3: Select Doing your taxes with a CD download
Step 4: Then click the Access My Downloads link (the link sits above the question below)
Which TurboTax CD/Download product is right for you?
Step 5: After clicking Access My downloads - Log into your account or create a new account.
Step 6: click downloads
Step 7: Look for the link ENTER YOUR LICENSE CODE HERE in the paragraph below.
Step 8: Type your license code on the next screen. do not copy and paste the license code here.
This trick can be used again and again up to 5 times per liscense code.
I have a copy of the Turbo Tax End User Agreement up on my screen. It says that the software can be installed on up to 5 computers. The problem is that once you have downloaded the Windows version of the software you can't use the code to download the Mac version of the software. If you try, you get this error:
"This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads."
It took 3 calls to Intuit support to resolve this issue, but the last support person I talked to solved the problem.
The solution was to send me a separate license for the Mac version of Turbo Tax. I was able to download the Mac version using that code, and the Mac version is now listed in my downloads section.
Don't take "no" for an answer. The first two support people said that a user can only download the software for one platform. On my third call I asked to speak to a manager. When she came on the line I told her that there was a discussion thread on Intuit's forum that had over 25 pages of unhappy customers dealing with this issue. I also read the pertinent section of the End User Agreement that clearly says that a user can install the software on up to 5 computers. I think these facts motivated her to solve my problem.
I have the exact same issue. If you have the solution please let me know. It is so stupid, my CD license code is not associated with any account, it gives me same error (code associated with other account) while downloading to 2 nd computer
Please let me know if you find answer to this question as I am in the same boat.
First if you buy a CD instead of a download and one of the computers you want to use doesn't have a CD drive and is the other OS then you should ONLY download the program for both OR use the CD for both (get a cheap external CD drive) OR save the installation file from the CD to a thumb drive and transfer it to the no CD computer.
Up to this year all you had to do is ask for the other OS download but this year TT seems to be pushing back which is not right ... I agree, insist nicely and don't take no for an answer.
I agree with all of the above, except for this part: "save the installation file from the CD to a thumb drive and transfer it to the no CD computer."
I couldn't find a way to copy the installation files for MacOS off the CD when the CD was mounted on my PC, because I didn't see any MacOS installation files. The TT support person I talked to said that some CDs only have installation files for a single platform, even though the box is labeled as Windows/Mac, and that is how the item was listed on Amazon
I had same problem with the TurboTax I bought at Sam's Club. I installed via CD to my Windows 10 pc. I encountered a problem running it on my computer. (Specifically, TurboTax will not display at least 3 pages, e.g., entering Social Security benefits. Not a new problem and one they have never fixed.) So I tried to install TT via download to my husband's Windows 11 pc. Got the message about the license code being used. I called Customer Support. The agent had to check with someone else and then told me I had to return the product to Sam's Club and buy a new product! I had been fairly certain that I could install on more than one computer, but then maybe that policy changed. Today I installed the new product (which now costs $10 more than when I first bought it) and discovered that I indeed could download it to 5 computers. Not a happy user... in fact, after over 20 years of using TT, I will no longer be a user.
Same here, I will be returning to Costco
