This error can occur when the Microsoft .NET Framework Installer can't install and/or update your system. Possible causes include:

I've tried all of the suggestions to no avail.
I finally used the phone help option. They had me uninstall TurboTax 2020, and reinstall it. After doing that, I was able to do the updates.

Same EXACT frustration here as well. Support tells me that this years' tax code is causing issues and an update is pending. I've got little confidence that the code problems are actually tax issues....

No. The tax data file for your tax return is not in the same directory on your computer as the TurboTax program.
The tax data file and any saved PDF's of the tax returns are stored by default in Documents and in the TurboTax folder.
