There will be a 2024 TurboTax icon for the desktop edition that you installed on a personal computer, Window or Mac.  The icon will be on the desktop display on or before the installation has completed.

Did you download and install the desktop TurboTax software on your computer? Installing the desktop software will create the icon on your desktop.

If you want to use TurboTax Online, there is no desktop icon for it. You sign in to TurboTax Online in your web browser.

If you need further help, please say whether you are installing the desktop TurboTax software in Windows or on a Mac, and where you purchased the download.

@azkidbob When using the TurboTax online web-based editions there is not an icon available to be entered on your computer display.  That is only available when using the TurboTax desktop editions installed on the computer.

If you have already installed TurboTax for Mac, you should see the icon in your Applications folder.

If you have a PC, follow these instructions:

Install TurboTax

1. Go to InstallTurboTax.com.
2. Select your product.
3. Select your operating system.
4. Locate and select your Download file to start the installation process.
5. Accept the TurboTax License Agreement.

Your product should automatically install after accepting the license agreement. 

After installing TurboTax Desktop, you'll be asked to sign in to your Intuit Account.

To activate your installed software: 

1. Sign in to or create your Intuit Account.
   • If there's a blank screen instead of a sign-in option, or you're redirected to the sign-in page multiple times, go here if you have a Mac or here if you have Windows.
   • If you have an account and are having trouble logging in, go to I need help signing into my Intuit Account.
2. Enter your license code.
3. Start using TurboTax.

I'm signed in to Turbotax 2024  but am not getting a desktop icon. Completed all entries except for those not available yet. I'm afraid of exiting the program and losing all my data. How do I get the icon while making sure my data is saved when I exit?

It's not clear what product you are using--online (web browser version) or desktop (software program installed on one's computer) and whether Mac or Windows.  If you are using Online TurboTax, there is no desktop icon.   Online TurboTax saves your data after each screen.   If you are using Online TurboTax, you can go to the left menu column and scroll way down to click on Sign Out.    If you are using desktop software, are you saying you don't have a desktop shortcut icon to launch the program from the main desktop screen; i.e., that the installation file didn't create one?  If so, how have you been launching the program?  And if so, that icon doesn't have anything to do with saving data.     We can tell you how to save a desktop version data file once we know for sure what product you are using, and when we further understand your issue.

I accidentally purchased an online version of Turbo Tax Premier. I then thought I was correcting by purchasing the desktop version. I cannot access either in my desktop. I would like to prepare the return using the desktop version. However, I do not see the icon to commence. Can I also get a refund for one of the purchases? Who should I contact?

You don't pay for your return in TurboTax Online until you File it, so not sure what you mean by 'purchased online version'?

If you purchased a download for TurboTax Desktop online (Amazon or Costco), you'll receive an Email with a link to download the program to your computer.

Once you click on the link, the program starts downloading, then installing, and you'll see a TurboTax icon on your desktop.  You'll be asked to Sign In to your Intuit account when you open it, and enter your License Code. 

Be sure to download/install/work in TurboTax on the C drive of your computer.

For a refund, you can Contact TurboTax Support.  Use 'billing' as your phone menu option.

I signed into my account, activated with code but I was not asked to download and no shortcut icon appeared on my desktop. I have always purchased a disc hardcopy which never had any issues but now they don't include the disc in the package and I have to go about it through a download. How do I get an icon for 2024 Turbo Tax?

Since you were not asked to download, it's not clear if you received an installation file from the website mentioned in the FAQ below, and if you did receive an installation file,  then did you click to install the software on your computer?   I can't tell if your program is even installed.   Here are the installation instructions:

At that site in the FAQ you have to indicate which product edition you bought, then it asks you to choose if you want the Windows or Mac version.  Once you download that executable installation file from that website, you launch that file to install the program.

For the Windows version, at some point during installation it should automatically place a shortcut icon on your desktop screen by default.   I can't tell from your original message above if the program is really installed, since you said it didn't ask you to download a file.   But if you are sure the program is installed, but there's no shortcut icon, you can create one.   In Windows, one would first navigate to the directory where the new program was installed and find the TurboTax program's executable file (this is NOT the installation file; it is the actual program file that runs the program.)   To do that, go into File Explorer to bring up the directory tree, and go to the default location, which is normally

C:\program Files\TurboTax\Individual 2024\64bit

and then in that folder scroll down to find TurboTax.exe.   Right-click on TurboTax.exe and in the popup menu choose "Send to desktop (create shortcut.)"    That should place a shortcut icon on your Windows desktop screen.   You can rename the shortcut if you wish.
