@SForrestLO as you can see elsewhere in the thread, several people have already spent hours on the phone with support with no solution, so I don't see any reason for the rest of us to waste our time doing so if nothing's changed.
Also, the linked page for phone instructions you shared (and which I've seen elsewhere) is broken, at least for the download/CD instructions. It says to go to the "contact us" page then select a product/edition to get a specialized phone number. There are no such choices on the "contact us" page, just the generic 800 number.
I'm certainly not impressed by the quality of online support for TurboTax. All the useful suggestions on this thread have come from community members. I'd really like to hear from an Intuit rep that they're at least aware of the issue and someone is working on it.
Is anyone at TurboTax working to find a fix? The success stories, and the problems seem to be random, and spending hours with nice, polite well-intentioned people who have no idea of what to do is not helpful. I successfully e-filed, but received a corrected form 1099-div. A couple of insignificant changes, and I can't get it to e-File my amended return because it wants Form1116 ScheduleB to be pasted in, even though it is there now. Yes I can file by mail. Turbotax promotes its services by highlighting the ease, speed and security of e-Filing. If I can't file by mail, they sold something they aren't delivering. I am sure lots of others feel like me. Fix this now!. Other tax programs are cheaper, and claim to have no problems with Form 1116, and the attached Schedule B. Why would I comeback next year?
this is an obvious software glitch.
tt probably believes that this situation is uncommon, so why would they
spend resources fixing it? as consumers of their products, we expect
them to fix issues of this type. I'm just going to mail in the amended
1040 return. what else can I (we) do?
@SForrestLO FIX YOUR BUGS INSTEAD OF ASKING US TO CONTACT YOUR CLUELESS SUPPORT TEAM.
Forget about customer support.
They know of the problem but there may or may not be a solution before the deadline.
You can get it to work by deleting form 1116.
Open in Forms view.
Scroll to the bottom and there should be (if you're feeling lucky) a Delete Form button.
Worked for me but then again I had some $8 foreign tax carryover from years ago so it didn't matter.
But this whole thing took 3 hours of high anxiety.
The support people know little but did give me a clue about the possibility of just deleting the form but not the methodology. Duh.
Anybody know of a good turbotax alternative?
This is a problem for me too. I wasted more than two hours on the phone with TT customer service, and I have checked all the super patches every day. So far no solution to what is clearly a TurboTax bug. Definitely do not want to have to print and mail more that 60 pages to the IRS.

It's clearly time for all us disgruntled, disappointed and abused TT users to say goodbye. It equally clear this company's lack of concern / communication about these LONG STANDING / BROADLY EXPERIENCED BUGS...is reason to start communicating, HERE, what proven solutions exist as alternatives for tax year 2022. I'll start investigating what programs exist that can pick up where TT left off (meaning, use our TT history files) and simply say GOODBYE to TT forever. Lets use this forum to start a thread so that everyone can benefit from our collective experience / investigative efforts to find the best solution allowing us to trash TT use forever.
Please date and time "stamp" all of your postings as we go forward in our efforts. I think my first step will be to contact executives at the following companies for their input on our collective dilemma:
1. TaxAct
2. TaxSlayer
3 H&R Block
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
After 27 years of Turbotax I believe you are right. Getting technical support from other users who may have accidentally figured out a work-around is not my idea of support. I can understand software delays as tax changes seem to be finalized by the IRS later each year, but completely ignoring customers and not having a proper internal escalation process is unacceptable. H&R Block is likely to get my business next year. Is $70 of lost revenue going to impact Intuit? Not individually, but multiply that by the number of unhappy users and it might get their attention.
@CarissaM @SForrestLO My TurboTax (Deluxe CD version on Windows) updated today to 572 with no improvement. I went through review and federal-only efile again and got the same error.
I've now made the payment for this amended return online via EFTPS, so I don't need to finish filing the amendment before the April 18 deadline. I'll wait a little longer to see if TurboTax can fix the issue for amended returns before I give up and file on paper.
Given the other posts here it seems like the error is probably specific to amended returns only. Maybe after the main filing deadline passes on Monday TurboTax support and developers can put more attention into amended-return issues.
If you cannot file the amended return, please follow the instructions here to contact us by phone so we can look into this further. @atwyman
Dear Employee TurboTax Specialist,
Intuit, or somebody somewhere within the company, has known about this issue for at least a month.
Mine was not an amended return.
My support person did ask me if I was in NY - curiously.
I'm in CA.
Expect to get bombarded with this issue on Monday as folks who have e-filed in the past with no problem suddenly find themselves up against the wall.
Good luck with that.
@CarissaM as I already said above, your phone instructions page is broken, and I see no intention to waste my time on the phone re-explaining and re-trying what I've already done. Several people with the same problem in this thread have already spent hours on the phone fruitlessly. I've already submitted my return several times and sent you my token in this thread. I've already deleted and recreated forms, uninstalled and reinstalled the software, among other things. I understand that "redirect to phone support" is probably all you have left on your support playbook at this point. It's not really your fault personally. We're not going to be helped until this is escalated to someone who can investigate and deal with the problem. Please do that if you can. If you can give me a more direct number or email to contact such a person, then I'd be happy to spend some time to work with them. E.g. if you were able to say "Call this number, request this extension, talk to Jane Smith, and reference case number X." then I might believe it's worth my time. Without that I'm not going into the generic phone tree to waste time with another well-meaning but helpless support rep.
Hi I was finally able to file both state (CA) and federal returns after many tries, reviewing all entries for form 1116, and filing the two returns separately. Why this worked I do not know.
Getting it filed is the first step. I got past that and the IRS has been working on it for 6 weeks now with no explanation. I suspect that the 1116 issue did not get fixed completely as there is little else in my return to question.
