Will customer support be able to help? This isn't something I or hundreds of other customers did wrong. this is a Turbo Task error. How will customer service help us?
I feel the same now after re-doing the return and getting the same message. I am up to version 0572 TT Premier Desktop
I am in the same situation on the Turbo Tax error message to reattach form 1116b.
I have tried all user suggestions.
Yes e-filing Federal first or only works the first time you efile.
But I, like other users, am trying to amend. the amendment has nothing to do with 1116b,
but I have tried deleting the form and the worksheet and then reentering the information onto the worksheet.
Error message returns.
Oddly, and perhaps more important. (I watched this very closely as I have been through the above procedures several times.) TT changed my election to use itemized deductions instead of the standard deduction-without me replying to do that on the step by step view. TT went to my personal information and unchecked a box - the one that says I am married filing separately and my spouse is itemizing. The fix is to recheck this box. Then one has to do another fix- the charitable cash contributions shows on a line of the 1040 (ok) but then the portion to be deducted in addition to the standard deduction (which I am not taking) shows as a zero. TT shows an error message until you change that zero to a blank, by using delete.
ALL of this is buggy with NO workaround on "reattaching schedule 1116B" other than to send in a paper return. Mind you the IRS is a few years behind on paper. PLEASE fix the bug.
From what I can tell the other users suggestions work to efile Federal only and the problems come with Amended Federal returns.
Yes, it is a problem with Amended Returns only. My Original Return e-filed fine and was accepted. I submitted a post on a different thread yesterday and the response was to delete the PDF. E-filing is from the information in the software not a PDF, which makes the error message misleading. I am very frustrated as well. Whatever fix TurboTax did for e-filing Original Returns obviously didn't get applied to Amended Returns.
@CarissaM You requested that we send you our tax returns. A lot of people did, myself included. And you have done absolutely nothing about it, or about the buggy software. When will this be fixed? Ignoring bugs and miserable customers does not make them go away.
I followed Sandy L's suggestion with success. Just to clarify, I had to delete the entire Form 1116, not just the Schedule B. TT transmitted it. I am commenting immediately, before notification of acceptance.
i wanted to share with you all this precious communication from the turbotax refund department:
"We are unable to process the refund for TY2021 TurboTax Desktop Deluxe DIY Amazon Case #nnnn because once the product has been used to file a federal or state return it is no longer covered within our Satisfaction Guaranteed policy."
apparently, amended returns aren't entitled to customer satisfaction.
@rjbran can you clarify something, please? After deleting the form, did you then go back and revisit the foreign tax credit section so the form would be regenerated? Or did you submit immediately. If you submitted immediately I'd expect that you'd end up either not claiming the foreign tax credit (which would affect the total tax owed) or claiming it without the form (which I'd expect to cause problems). But I'm not an expert, so who knows.
I did try deleting the whole form then revisiting the interview sections to regenerate it, and that didn't let me submit. I didn't try submitting without regenerating the form. Let us know what response you get, and whether yours is an original or amended return.
@atwyman, Mine was an amended return. I did not go back to try to regenerate the form. I tried to efile immediately without regenerating. The efiling went through TT and was accepted by IRS. After studying my retained pdfs of the original and amended, I am embarrassed to report that I am not really sure what happened with the foreign tax credit on either return. Looks like it was mostly carryover with small ($119) utilization. After the Federal efiling, TT was definitely not interested in letting me efile an amended state (Virginia) return, so I printed that for mailing.
@rjbran thank you for clarifying. Not filing my amended return without the tax credit is not an option for me. This confirms that it is a TurboTax problem that they need to fix ASAP.
4-29-22 Its time to leave TurboTax where they have left us...."in the dirt". Their support and bug fixing is HORRENDOUS. The history on this one problem is so INCREDIBLY bad...God knows how many other bugs there are in the TurboTax software. Bye bye!
Time to migrate to H&R Block:
Face it.
The 1116B problem only affects a small minority of filers.
TurboTax has made a decision not to expend resources to address the problem.
They may have looked at it and found the issue difficult to fix.
So the solution is to ignore it and not care about loosing a few customers.
TurboTax, in general, starts getting more wonky as the complexity of your returns increase.
With K1's, LLC's, lots of contracts and straddles, etc ...
Unfortunately the main option is to go thru a regular accountant who'll charge you $5K while paying minimum wage for some rookie to manually enter data and then you have to go over it again with a fine tooth comb to root out the mistakes. As the old saying goes - been there, done that.
I spoke with a TurboTax support person who escalated the problem. They're supposed to email me with the results...hopefully soon.
@Sandy L , thanks! please let us know.
Unfortunately I have zero trust in Intuit/Turbotax for providing any useful customer support. they have proven themselves entirely incompetent and irresponsible.
Here is the reply I received...they recognize the problem, but don't have an exact date for the fix. I'm very disappointed in their response as it seems like they could use the same fix as the regular return and it not take that long to correct. If it's not fixed before October, more than likely we'd have to paper file anyway.
Hello,
Thanks for letting us know about your issue with getting an error when trying to e-file your amended return. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused.
We appreciate your patience while we looked into your issue. After investigating the issue, we found that we have upgraded the e-filing system this year, unfortunately, the amend e-file system hasn't been upgraded yet to support this functionality. This functionality will be added later this year. It is advised that you print and mail your amended return.
If you’re still having trouble or there’s something else we can help you with, feel free to give us a call.
Thank you,
The TurboTax Help Team
