I keep getting error code 630 every time I try to use my activation code.

Don't you believe it!  They will not help you.  They will waste your time and tell you that it is your computer, even though it was working fine the day before.  The license code process is broken!

I keep getting error code 630 every time I try to use my activation code.

What is your specific problem?  Is it asking you to Activate it again?  Have you tried asking your question with details here in this forum?  Maybe another user can help.  We've seen a lot of it.

Make sure your computer is the same way when you originally installed it. Like with no flash drives plugged in or plugged in if one was. Even a printer plugged in or not. It asked me again so I just closed the program and took out a flash drive that was plugged in and tried again. It worked.

Compatibility mode doesn't fix this.  It's just another time waster that the techs have on their punch list.

A bunch of calls to TT and no avail.  Tried this and it was the only method that worked.  Thanks for posting!

I keep getting error code 630 every time I try to use my activation code.

I am getting same error. I tried installing software again and tried License code it keeps giving error. I called TurboTax and they were not able to identify the License Code. I called Vendor and they confirmed License Code is valid and they are getting feedback from TurboTax as valid code.

I gave up. Contacting them is an infinite loop. So, I ordered a replacement (Amazon). Oh, the irony. I then, ffs, once last time, uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled and it worked. This is so ridiculous that we tolerate this nonsense. Shouldn't have to even go through this process, the IRS already has the data we're simply regurgitating. I could go on... g'night

I keep getting error code 630 every time I try to use my activation code.

When I had this issue a year or two ago, I had already been using the Turbo Tax for that year.  Then one time I opened it, it said I had to enter my license number and it gave me the error code 630.  Called Turbo Tax, talked to a few levels of help desk people, no luck.  Got new license numbers from Turbo Tax, no luck.  Then I saw a post that said that even though you "uninstall" the software, some of the files are still there and you need to delete them manually.  It said where the files were on the hard drive (I think 3 files maybe?).  I had to go in and manually delete the files off of my hard drive.  Reinstalled the software and it worked.  It was unbelievable that no one at Turbo Tax could tell me that.

Found solution for this problem. Thanks to @Bushman for giving hint.

Rename folders in below folder for TY[YY] to something else and uninstall and install.

C:\ProgramData\Intuit\TurboTax

C:\Users\[current user]\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax

It's 2023 and they still haven't fixed the problem!!!

I know after 5 hours on the phone with different TT specialists and all they wanted to do was force me to online TT.  I don't want online TT.  You have had a data breach in the past.  I paid for Windows TT and you gladly took my money.  Fix the problem TT.

@mesquitebean

Thank you for suggestion.  I tried it a couple times and it didn't work for me unfortunately.

Holy Crow!  Terry, you are my hero!  It worked and I didn't even have to uninstall / install.  Simply did you TT22 to TTxx folder name change.

I have been trying to solve this on my Windows 11 laptop for a month.  Many hours with TT specialists that have no clue how to fix it.  They tried giving me a new download with new activation code multiple times.  They didn't work.   They tried to make me use their online TT.  No way!  They have had data breaches before.  I spent good money to have a windows download.  I also spent many hours surfing online for answers and trying many.  Yours is the first that worked for me!!

Thank you kind sir!

I'm pleased to hear that my solution from a few years ago still works.  It looks like TurboTax has not fixed whatever the error is in this directory:

C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax subdirectory

so it must be renamed before you try to open TurboTax again.

I keep getting error code 630 every time I try to use my activation code.

I think my solution from a few years ago still works.  It looks like TurboTax has not fixed whatever the error is in the C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax subdirectory, so the directory must be renamed (or possibly deleted?) before you try to open TurboTax again.

To recap, here is the solution (on an Windows 10 or Windows 11 system):

Step 1: Open File Explorer and go to: c:\users\<your-user-name>

Step 2: Select the View menu and check "Hidden Items" (so that you can see the AppData subdirectory)

Step 3: Go to  C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax

Step 4: Rename the TY19, or TY20 or TY21 or TY22 directory to TYXX

Step 5: Open TurboTax again

Hope it is that easy.

Best wishes,

Terry
