Turbo Tax for 2018 inserted that my wife was disabled when I did her our federal taxes. I don't recall tick a box stating she is disabled. The state however thinks she is on Social Security disability vs just regular SS at age 62+. They are weighing it again my military retierment and both can't be claimed in my state.
Was there an option to select that status in 2018? or did Turbo Tax mess up my taxes?
I have to pay back the difference and I'm worried that it will trickle down to the 2 tax years. I need to find out how to correct this if I'm going to keep on using TT. I been using it since day 1 almost.

There is nowhere in the TurboTax program where you would enter your spouse as disabled.
Social Security Disability payments are entered on the tax return the exact same way as Social Security Retirement payments are entered, box 5 of the SSA-1099. So there is no way on a tax return to indicate the SS payments were for Social Security Disability.
What state? What do you mean they both can't be claimed? Claimed as what? Claimed as income or a deduction? Make sure you enter the military 1099R and her SSA-1099 under the right name. Maybe you entered both under your name or her name.
What code is in box 7 on your military 1099R?
Most states don't tax Social Security. So any taxable amount is subtracted from the federal AGI. For Federal......
Up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security, reaches:
Married Filing Jointly: $32,000
Single or head of household: $25,000
Married Filing Separately: 0
These are the states that can tax Social Security.
CO, CT, KS, MN, MO, MT, NB, NM, ND, RI, UT, VT, WV
These states offer varying degrees of income exemptions, but four mirror the federal tax schedule: MN, ND,VT, and WV
As already stated by others --- you enter a SSA1099 for Social Security benefits received. There is no difference in how you enter Social Security disability or "regular" Social Security benefits.
@louievee This might be in left field----but are you being affected by the WEP----the Windfall Elimination Provision? Did you accidentally enter your own pension and your wife's SSA1099 under your own Social Security number? Is the SS being affected by WEP?

Make sure that on your joint return you are entering each spouse's income under the correct spouse name and Social Security number.
