Good afternoon, DaveF1006, and MANY, MANY THANKS for your time and guidance!!!   Just a few follow-up questions to be absolutely certain I understand your instructions.   Follow-up Questions: 1a. So my original approach where BOTH my wife and I filled out the TOP HALF of Schedule A, Part 1, on each of our respective Form 709’s is incorrect, and …   1b. The correct approach is for me to complete the TOP HALF of MY Schedule A, Part 1, as sort of the “lead donor” and for my wife to complete the BOTTOM HALF (i.e., under “Gifts Made by Spouse”) of HER Schedule A, Part 1, as the “co-donor”, …… is that all accurate??   2. If so, I believe you made a typographical error in your line 3 above.  You wrote as follows:  “Line 3: Subtract line 2 from line 1. You are left with $25,000 as your share. This is reported in Box H.”  But I believe you meant “This is reported in Box (i) - Net Transfer (subtract column (h) from column (g).”  Is that correct?   3. Finally, in your very first sentence, you mentioned the “Total” column needs to show the full reality of the gift before the split.  When you said the “Total” column, do you mean Column (g) – Value at Date of Gift”??   I hope I’m not being TOO BIG A PEST with all these follow-up questions but your guidance is the first feedback that I’ve received that has made any sense to me!  Given that, I was hoping you might spare a few more minutes of your time to answer these final questions.  Again, thanks much for your time and patience, your willingness to offer your expertise and insight on this thread, and the detailed instruction and guidance you’ve provided thus far!!!!

It is possible to have a refund and still have an underpayment penalty if the payments were not paid equally across all payment dates. If your income calculation was used each period to determine if an estimated tax was required, then you may need to do the annualized method to reduce or eliminate the penalty.   The IRS is a pay as you go system which means when the money is earned the tax is due.   You can choose to use the annualized income/tax method in TurboTax by using the steps below. Have  your 2025 return ready just to confirm your numbers. Open your  TurboTax Online or TurboTax Desktop return Search (upper right) > Type underpayment penalty  TurboTax Online: Click 'See More' at the bottom of the FAQ that pops up > Click on Go to annualizing your tax TurboTax Desktop:  Click the Jump to.. link Continue selecting to use the annualized method and enter the income in the slots where earned.  For wages, interest, dividends or anything earned equally through out the year divide by 12 and multiply by 3/5/8.  Continue to follow the screen prompts Generally, you can avoid the penalty if your total timely estimated payments and withholdings are greater than or equal to the lesser of: 90% of the total tax after credits for the current year, or 100% of the total tax after credits in the prior year See one exception below. You can also avoid the penalty if the amount you owe is less than $1,000 as long as any estimated tax payments you made are timely.   Note: High-income taxpayers. If your adjusted gross income (line 11 of your 2023 Form 1040) is greater than $150,000 (or $75,000 if you're married and file a separate return from your spouse), you can avoid a penalty by paying at least 110% of your total tax from the prior year.

Saying you are a full time high school student has no effect on your tax refund or tax due.    At the age of 18, you can still be claimed as a qualifying child dependent by your parent(s).     If the only income was the Social Security disability benefits, you do not have to file a tax return.   If you had any other income like from an after school or summer job, then the SSA1099 and your other income goes on a tax return, which you can file to seek a refund if tax was withheld from your paychecks (box 2 or 17 of your W-2).   Not sure why you are saying you will not be claimed--unless your parent does not file a return.   Your refund or tax due are not affected by being claimed as a dependent.

You can file for multiple years at the MO portal. I  assume you live in MO and want the property tax credit.  The good news, MO allows you up to 3 years to file from the due date and still receive your credit.   The MO PTC can be filed with your return, if you upload your paperwork. You don't want to claim it on your return and in the portal. The PTC is in the state section under credits. You can use the portal each year - whichever works best for you.
He should receive Form 1099-R from the plan administrator. You will enter the 1099-R information on your tax return. It'll include the distribution amount as well as any taxes withheld.

We have reported the CA SOS validation message for further investigation but have not received an estimate for an update.   If your partnership prepares Schedule K-1 for at least one trust, you cannot opt out of the Centralized Partnership Audit Regime (Form 1065 p1-3 Line 29). Changing this election may resolve the issue with the Partnership Representative (unnecessary if you don't opt out).   Or you can fix this using Forms Mode and confirm that these two forms, Partnership Information Worksheet and Schedule K-1 Worksheet, contain the correct information.    The PR checkbox on Schedule K-1 Worksheet is in the right-hand column under the Profit/Loss percentages as "Check applicable boxes:" For a TRUST, DON'T check the box saying, "the member who has been designated as the partnership representative for the business."   On the Information Worksheet, Part V, confirm that there is no SSN under the Member's information. Both the Partner and PR boxes must be checked.   Do not return to the Step-by-Step section for Partner/Member Information in case this action is resetting your entries. Save your return. Close, reopen, and run Federal Review again.

Are you saying that you need to amend your 2024 tax return that you did with TurboTax in 2024?  If you did so using the app or TurboTax online, you can log in to your account, go to the Tax Home page, then click on "Your tax returns & documents" near the bottom of the page.  The page will default to your 2024 return and you can click on "Amend (change) 2024 return".  To do the amendment, you will need to be able to download the TurboTax 2024 program onto a computer or laptop, with Windows or Apple Mac operating software.   If you already have the 2024 TurboTax software that you used to file your 2024 return, you can open that program and near the bottom you can click on "Amend a Filed Return".

Clarification: 1. Turbotax asks me to enter total sale price. 2. I paid 3rd quarter real taxes as required on August 1st 3. When I press "?" button it seems to indicate that real estate tax paid by the buyer to the seller (Box 6, Form 1098-S) should be added to the sale price, therefore I should enter $502,051 into turbotax, instead of $500,000. But I'm not sure if I understand it correctly.  4. Do I enter $502,051, instead of $500,000, or do I enter $500,000?   Thank you in advance for clarification.   BTW, Turbotax should create 1098-S entry worksheet, just like it does for 1099 forms.

You indicated you know the first one..   The second one would likely be for a)  Oregon Paid (Family) Leave Wages or b) Oregon Paid (Family) Leave Withholding/Contributions   the two are different selections, but I would guess that if teh $$ amount is close to your Oregon box 16 wages....then it's likely the "Wages" category.    if it's a fairly small amount.  .then it's the Withholding selection

@RogerD1 - this error is not corrected, and I am unable to eFile my KY state taxes with the supplied ID numbers, or using FEIN.   I don't know who can submit this to engineering to get this corrected.  I've already paid Turbotax for processing, and I can't print and mail my state return because of how I set up my payment and refund.

It depends. If all your 529 plan distributions were spent on qualified educational purposes and if Room and Board was not included with those expenses, you would not enter them at all. Entering these will not lower your taxes; they just prevent you from being charged more taxes on your 529 gains.   Since all your 529 distributions were already spent on education expenses, none of the distributions were taxable in the first place.
