More information would be needed to know why your "received" distribution was less. Have you talked to the people who prepared your 1099-R? Was there any withholding shown on the 1099-R?

Thanks so much for the information and cautionary points, I appreciate the paranoia with the level of identity theft these days! A couple of things help, I should have said first that during the phone call with their Litigation and Recovery supervisor, she asked only for the last four of my SSN and then my birth year. There is someone's SSN and DOB on the loan, and seems my name and address on it (that's how I got the 1099 in the mail). Full birth dates are pretty easy to find in public records with a name and address if she wanted it, but anyway what I gave her (last 4 and birth year) are the critical pieces of info, enough to establish that the account belonging to whomever took out the loan and then defaulted is not the person (me) who they sent the 1099 to. This is why I suspect someone has hijacked my identity for the loan with at least my name and address, thus they sent the 1099. Pretty shoddy loan validation if you ask me. I'm able to surmise based on the company's name and "Equipment" in the Debt Description box on the 1099 that the loan is probably related to farm equipment, and bankruptcy was declared in March 2025. The ITIN is a red flag loose end-- the finance officer could not say if it is with the IRS under my name and my SSN, only that it was with the account for the loan which has a different SSN and DOB from mine. I checked my credit reports with the 3 main bureaus, there is nothing about the loan and my credit score is fine. I went ahead and froze my credit reports. What the finance company will do next, I do not know, or if they sent the 1099 to the IRS,and if they did whether the IRS will kick it back or whatever they do. I take your advice to not file it with 2025 taxes. I may separately follow up with the IRS about the ITIN, it seems inconspicuous enough just to see if I have one. If I do, then I'll file the identity theft affidavit to get me disconnected from that tax number. Thanks again!

You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected.
You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment

When you originally installed your software, did you have a thumb drive in one of your USB drives? Or do you have your software installed in OneDrive instead of a local drive?

Turning 73 this year (2025) I took the required RMDs in 2025 and received the anticipated 1099-R. Within T.T. the instructions read: "Do not include RMDs which are due on April 1. RMDs for the first year you're required to take a distribution are generally due on April 1." Since I've taken the RMDs in 2025, if I don't report them now it would seem that next year's return, 2026, will be expected to have two 1099-Rs reporting RMDs...one for the 2025 tax year but taken before 1 Apr 2026, and a second for the 2026 tax year. BUT, I will only receive one 1099-R in 2026, and I won't receive credit for these RMDs that I actually did perform in 2025. What it the proper way to handle this in T.T? Thanks for your insight.

When entering your Form 1099-R, the state in Box 15 is not a required field if there is nothing in Box 14 and 16. Texas has no state income tax. Other states with no state income tax are likely "missing" from the dropdown state list, too. If there is something in Box 14 and 16, then why?
