Today, I would like to file past year 1098T tax form.
Before I do, I just want to know the route.
And I have several questions about it.
1. Can I still available to file past year 1098T since 2014.
2. Is there any penalties going to be charge because those are old.
3. Am I still able to get refund from prior years taxes?
4. I paid whole tuition for whole 5 years with an international card. Can I get a refund on different account (US bank)?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
I appreciate your information.
By the way, I still have several questions from your reply.
1. Then, if I can get a refund from 2016 tax, how to file those?
2. Can I file those tax on online?
3. If I cannot, what is the route of filing old 1098T?
4. If IRS send me a check, is this check going to be included whole 3 years (2016-2018) refund fees?
1. Here is a link for how to prepare prior year returns.
2. No
3. You will need to mail each return separately.
4. Each year is a separate check.
I appreciate your replying.
When I check the link, I am not belonging to any categories. So that I would like to file by mail.
Here are more questions.
1. By the way, where is this mail going to be arrived? I guess it is to be at IRS.
2. How can I mail those old tax to them?
3. Can I know the right department address of IRS?
4. How long it will take to send refund as a check to me?
5. How could I know the status?
6. If I purchase it, do I have to pay for each years? Or I just have to pay once and file past three years?
There will be instructions on where to mail the tax return.
The refund usually takes a month or so.
There is no way to track the status without calling the IRS.
You will need to pay for each year's tax program separately.
Thank you for your information.
By the way, I still have questions.
1. Where it is ? Is it in IRS website?
2. Can I send old 1098t form in one envelop or individually?
3. Do I have to send 2019 1098t form by mail?
4. If I can file 2019 form, can I do it Turbotax even though I already submitted to file w-2 ?
5. If I can, how to add 2019 1098t form?
6. If I cannot, what tax app can I use to file it?
7. If completing file old forms take more than April 15th, what should I do? Is IRS going to give a notice to me?
8. If they do, how they do? They'll do via my email or mail or phone?
To answer your questions:
Thank you for your replying.
I have never done past 1098T forms. So I am trying to file past year 1098T form (2016-2018) in this year, including with 2019 form.
So these are the questions that I want to ask.
1. If I am able to file 2016-2018 1098T to IRS by mail, where can I find the address? Exactly, where it is in IRS website? Can I send it to them
2. What should I give to them except the forms when I file through mail?
3. If I do not have to file 2019 1098T form by mail, can I still file it through TurboTax even though I've already done filing another tax form?
4. What if filing 1098T takes longer than April 15t?
5. Is there any fees going to be charged for old 1098T form? If do how much it will be charged?
6. Can I get a refund from old 1098T form?
7. If I can get it, can I get through different bank account, instead the bank account that I've been used when I paid tuition?
1. It depends on which state you reside in. I am attaching the Form 1040 instruction https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040x--2018.pdf for you, review page 15.
2. You would attach the Form 1098-T and Form 8863 Education Tax Credits along with the Form 1040-X.
3. Although you are amending your 2018 tax return by mail, if you qualify for the education tax benefit in 2019, you can file your 2019 taxes to claim online with 2019 TTO.
4. If you are referring to filing the 2019 Form 1098-T takes longer than April 15th, usually you will get your refund before April 15th unless there are issues going on in which IRS will send you correspondence.
5. If you use TurboTax to file your 2018 taxes, there is no charge to amend. If you did not file with TurboTax, you can simply download the forms from the IRS and there is no charge either.
6. Yes. If you meet all the requirements and IRS approves it, you will receive an additional refund.
7. Yes, you can. On Form 1040X, you can enter the bank account information which you like the money to go into.
Thank you for your reply
1. how to file old 1098T forms?
2. can I just print out old forms and send to "Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service Kansas City, MO 64999-0052" which is present at the page 15 ?
3. how can I check the status ?
You will need to add the 1098T data to a Form 1040X amended return and send the amended return to the IRS. The address to send the amended return can be found here.
You can check the status of an amended return after filing at the IRS website.
Thank you for your answer.
Before I send it, if I need to add the 1098T data to a Form 1040X amended, how can I add this form?
2. Is there any specific way to add?
3. if it does, where can I find the form?
4. Do I have to submit the form ?
5. If I do, where do I have to submit the form before I send it to the address?
If you did your 2016 through 2018 tax returns in TurboTax, it is fairly easy to amend.
For TurboTax Online, simply login to your account and select “Amend a return that was filed and accepted.” If you used our CD/download product, sign back into your return and select “Amend a filed return. Add the 1098T under Education Credits and answer the questions.
You can find out more about amending a return here.
If you did not originally file with TurboTax and wanted to amend with TurboTax you would have to purchase the Download/CD version of the program, re-enter the original return, then amend the return. You can find the downloads here.
You can try it manually, but it is tricky. Start with the Form 1040X and Form 8863.
You will need to print and mail Form 1040X and attachments to the address in my last post. Keep a copy for yourself. File each year in a separate envelope. Once you have mailed the 1040X and attachments, you are done.
Thank you for replying
I already have filed 2019 W-2. I would like to file 2019 1098T form in Turbotax.
1. How can I file it again?
2. Also, Form 1040x is considered as same one for 1098T?
The name is different.
3. So I just print old 1098 t forms and send to the department by mail?
4. How can I track them? And how can I check the status?
