The tax season just started and sometimes it takes a few days for the IRS to catch up on the millions of returns that were waiting in the pile.
I haven't been notified re any status. How long does that normally take?
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

I'm just going to mail my return. Never was notified of anything last year and then just mailed it. IRS got that one.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Did you e-file your return? Generally, if you e-file your return, acceptance or rejection of your return may happen within 48 hours. xmasbaby0 is correct in that if you decide to mail your return, you will need to include your W-2(s), and 1099s. Regarding mailing returns, the IRS has stated:
Here is a link to the IRS webpage which explains where you need to mail a paper return based on the state where you live.
Where to file paper returns with or without payment
Hi,
I e-filed my tax return on 04/11 it has been more than 48hours and my tax return is still pending. Even if there is anything wrong with my file noone emailed me about the additional steps even after 48 hours passed as Turbo tax promised. The deadline is closing and I am worried my return will not be e-filed.

I filed January 7th and still have pending
MY RETURN IS IN PENDING—what does that mean?
Did you e-file? Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?” If so, your return is now in “pending” on a server. Do not try to change anything while your return is in pending. Later in January the IRS will begin to accept/reject e-files. Watch your emails—including your spam folder—for the notice about whether your e-file has been accepted or rejected. If your return is rejected you will be able to make corrections before re-filing. If the return you e-filed is accepted you will have to wait until it has been fully processed and then amend it to fix any mistakes or omissions. It has been taking the IRS six to nine months—sometimes longer—to process amended returns. If you e-filed your state return there will be another email later that tells you if the state was accepted or rejected.
WARNING: Do not try to change anything on your return while it is pending.
