So we did my boyfriend's 2020 tax return with turbo tax and the IRS says that they never received his 2020 return and turbo tax most definitely took payment for his taxes out of my bank account for his 2020 return that is not on file for 2020 with the IRS. I just want to know what is going on because turbo tax took like almost 200 out of my account for payment for returns that the irs never received.
My boyfriend has gotten two letters from the IRS on his 2020 tax return which was filed with turbo tax and paid for out of my bank account of like 211.71 or so roughly taken from my bank account when he never got his refund which I'm assuming is due to the irs never receiving the return. He never got any of the stimulus money either. We did his 2021 taxes through Jackson Hewitt and got his refund for that year. I have the return copies and the letter copies. I've been through the transcripts for 2020 and there is nothing so just a little upset about the fact that I paid for a turn that never got filed.
If it was efiled and accepted In the PDF of your TurboTax return, the last page of the federal return should be an "electronic postmark" that shows your name, Social Security number, the date and time that you e-filed the return, and the date that the IRS accepted it.
But just paying the Turbo Tax fees doesn't mean it was filed. You have to pay the online fees before printing or filing. Maybe he was suppose to mail it? Maybe you didn't finish filing it or it Rejected. When you log into his account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. what does it say?
Then when you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepte.d or Rejected your efile. Check back though your emails if you have them.
OK so I understand all of that what I'm saying is that the payment was supposed to come out of his refund that refund that the irs never received a return for this is every letter I've been trying to take care of this for almost two years now. I've tried to contact turbo tax because we got the upgraded version incase anything like this happened and have gotten no where at all. We even have the email talkimg about his refund being processed.
Oh ok. Sounds like Turbo Tax did transmit it. You need to call support and have them trace the submission. How to contact Turbo Tax

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

I haven't recieved my state return from 2022. I would like some help figuring out what I have to do now.
Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities, There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals.
STATE RETURN

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted?
Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund
