VolvoGirl is correct, the state tax can not be deducted from the federal refund. You can only have your Turbo Tax fees deducted. You will still get the full federal refund minus any fees you had deducted. Turbo Tax just shows you a screen at the end showing the Net amount of federal and state combined.
@User4today90 Did you get your federal refund yet? If your federal refund was reduced the IRS will mail you a letter saying why. Or you might have had the Turbo Tax fees deducted from it. Or the IRS took part of your refund for a past tax due you owed. Even for a past state tax due but not for the current state tax due.
Every time I use tubo tax I run into senseless issues. I was trying to finish my return today and paid the BS turbo tax fee and my state return with my credit card. I continued to file my federal return and before I could check out turbo tax is asking me how I want to pay my state tax which I JUST DID. Then I try to use the help option and have someone call me who has NO IDEA how to help me and all I could hear were chickens screaming in the back ground. So now I can't finish my return because tubo tax has royally screwed me and I'm stuck because it's asking me to pay a second state tax to which I already have and then I can't speak to anyone to help me. This is SUCH GARBAGE.
If you accidentally paid twice, you should be able to contact your State directly and request that they refund the excess amount to you. You may be asked to write a letter or fill out a form.
Often a state will refund an excess payment automatically when they process your return, but sometimes it gets treated as an estimated payment for the next year.

If you read the post I didn’t put twice. Not the issue. Good talk bud.
What version are you using? Are you using the Desktop installed program and paid the $25 to efile the state and it's asking you to pay the $25 again? Or please try explaining more.
I am worried this same thing is going to happen to me. I just filed and I allocated for my state taxes owed ($60) to be paid from my total refund amount and and the end the $60 was deducted from my total refund amount. I was then asked for my bank information and the date for the IRS to take the $60 out of my account. If the amount I owe was deducted from my refund amount will they still take it out of my account or will the $60 be added back to my refund?

State taxes owed can Never be paid from a federal tax refund. You can have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund, but nothing else.
If you have state taxes owed then you need to pay those taxes.
@ajgibs You are confused. It is impossible to pay a state tax due from a federal refund. You have to pay the state yourself by your state's preferred method of payment. Nothing will be deducted from your federal refund to pay your state tax due.
The only thing that can be paid from your federal refund is your TurboTax fees. If you chose to pay for using TurboTax by having the fees deducted from your federal refund, you will pay an extra "refund processing fee" of $40 ($45 in CA) to have the third party bank receive your federal refund, take out the TT fees and send you the rest.
How can I see my TurboTax fees?

What is Refund Processing Service?
You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment. For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.

I filed my state and federal taxes. It says i owe money for federal taxes but I am receiving money for state taxes. At the end it deducted the exact amount that I owe from my State taxes. Please explain this. I know you cannot automatically pay federal taxes with state taxes, and Vice versa. I don’t want to finish filing until i understand why the EXACT amount is being taken out.
The summary shown to you by TurboTax nets out the difference between the refund and tax owed. That does not mean----and never means----that a refund is being used to pay a tax due amount.
For the amount you owe to the IRS on your federal return, please look at your Form 1040, line 37.

Federal taxes owed can never be paid from a state tax refund.
What you are seeing on the TurboTax Tax Home webpage is the Net of the tax refund and the taxes owed. It in no way means that federal tax owed have been paid from the state tax refund.
You will receive your full state tax refund from your state, provided they do not make any changes to your tax return.
You will have to pay the federal taxes owed using the procedure you chose in the File section of the program on Step 2.
Than why did it say I was getting $28 in federal and I owed $5 to State and than it gave me a check for $23? And what's up with this message too
@Toho Monsters That statement by the TurboTax Assistant is flat out Wrong. This has been reported to the TurboTax Moderators for correction.
